Moving forward after another 5-0 Ashes drubbing how many of this team/squad should be in the next England squad? Definitely Stokes, Root & Archer and Atkinson & Brooks if he can bat more responsibly. Maybe Smith but Foakes is a better wicket keeper. I don't know what players can come in but the top 3 can all go & so can bowlers who cannot bowl to the field settings. No idea on a spinner but Bashir who was fast tracked for his height hasn't had a look in & clearly isn't trusted/rated. You watch the whole team start playing properly in 4th & 5th tests to earn retrieves. I thought the words from Stokes would have the desired effect for this test but clearly not 😡
Problem is it's not a difficult home Test program for 2026 - New Zealand & sri Lanka. Duckett will make runs against them so they have to decide whether they need a sort-term boost or there's a more long-term approach again. Ideally someone steps upand makes early runs in the CC to force their way in.
Pope & Crawley have to be gone.
There's a lot of options for wk/batsmen - Foakes, Cox, one of the Rews and others.
There just isn't a spinner atm and early season conditions won't see anyone make a case for selection.

The more you read about this mess with snicko the worse it gets.

Games here use ultra edge which is paid for by the ECB. Games in Australia don't have any technology provided by Cricket Australia, they leave it up to the host broadcaster. Despite it being on two channels Fox is considered the host broadcaster and use snicko.

The other channel covering it, Channel 7, use ultra edge.

How is this not someone mandated by the ICC?

Just to add to the mess Fox is the broadcaster of the Big Bash League. For that they use ultra edge
Though we've deserved nothing from this test, or this series, take away the 40 odd runs Australia gained from a dodgy snicko decision and the possible 30 or so we couldve got extra with the dodgy Smith snicko decision, and the 2nd innings is a lot more of a contest than it currently is.

That being said, bazball is the reason we're in the position we're in and the biggest downfall to English cricket, not snicko.

Sibley and Hameed were top of the averages and runs scored in the county championship and either or both would offer a more solid start as openers.

Find it interesting that Sibley didn’t get more time when brought in previously - he does have a clear fault in his play but then so does Crawley and he’s had more lives than a cat.
