Not really - Duckett played high risk from the off - just as well or we’d be fucked by now
There's being aggressive, exciting and attacking. Then there's stupid. A couple of overs before lunch, hard job is done, then gifts a wicket.
In your own "acceptance", would you accept a striker scoring 20 goals in the season, but who shot every time he had the ball (including in our own half) and therefore dismantling the team effort? We miss out on the play offs because the "team" didnt get a look in, but you have to accept it for the good of the 20 goal striker who excited us all with a goal from the halfway line once!

I think what’s happened since proved the batters this morning played the right way. I’ve not seen any commentator having an issue with duckett and if anything, they praised the openers for putting Indian under pressure, making them change the field and closing the gap to on India’s total quickly before they got a ball with their name on it….we scored at 7 an over. Both shastri and pointing praised them at lunch. Even atherton and Nasser, not known for their aggressive batting, have said it was right was for them to play that way today
The football analogy doesnt work here because this is how the management want the openers to play and also how the players have decided to play on this pitch, in these conditions. It was a bad shot by duckett but he’d also played a similar shot for six not long before, that’s how he plays. If we’d had the old mentality with Sibley etc, trying to grind out a score in these conditions on this pitch, I’d imagine we’d have been all out for 150 or less. The openers have kept us in this.
As i say, it was a bad shot, my point was we’ve got to take the bad with the good sometimes. If certain players get a load of runs through unconventional, aggressive play in difficult conditions, we’ve also got to accept that theyll also probably get out playing that way as well.

Didn't look to be many high risk efforts to me. It was the right thing to be more expansive, but it needed winding down in the last bit of play before lunch. He even got a let off immediately beforehand.
Best batter in the world though. Also scored less than both Crawley and Duckett in this innings

Not being funny Steve, I agree with the bulk of this, but to reiterate again that the criticism isn't for going out with that approach, it's for not switching it off at the right time.
Every/any time a player gets out to a shot like that would be the wrong time…..it looks horrible. Pope still managed to get another 12 before lunch himself. Problem has been what’s happened after lunch not before

Exactly this. He'd had a let off, literally trying the same shot the very ball before hand. The bowler knows exactly what he was going to do and he played straight in to his hands. Ive never been against expansive, attacking cricket. IF its played with a bit of noggin too!
Also, in response football analogy not working as he's playing the way the management want him to play, exactly the same scenario as before, 20 goal striker etc, but only doing so on FL instruction, how long before you are calling for FL to be sacked?

The Indian fielders had butter fingers in the first test, and now we've got the same issue in the last test.
Bloody frustrating as we are a man down in the bowling department. Imagine running in in this heat, and finally getting an edge, only to see some numpty drop it
