Chuffed for Bethall. Gone out there as a young lad, pulled a couple of fit Aussies and then showed more bollocks that I’ve seen from pope in nearly all of his 60 odd tests

I was lucky enough to wake up and watch Bethell go to his hundred whilst at the other end Brook was wafting his bat at every delivery trying to hit an imaginary wasp

I don’t follow county like I did when I was a kid so I don’t know who’s out there who bats well and got a solid cricket brain/captain material. Need to start looking though as brooks temperament appears a little errr questionable !

Brooks has got the talent to do it but not the brains at the moment. Needs to sort his shit out otherwise he’ll waste his career as a flat track bully
With the exception of Root, and on occasion, Stokes, this applies to every last one of them. The brain has been coached out of them in favour of "trying" a shot in the name of bazball.

Great knock from Bethell. Some idiotic stuff from others as per usual. Don't get how some of these batsmen couldn't look at how Bethell was batting (with success) and copy his approach.

A lot of this squad will have to play red ball county cricket to try & get themselves sorted out. Whether the ECB or the schedule allows it is another thing.
Zero chance of that for any white ball players. From here they go to Sri Lanka then straight into the T20 World Cup in India. There's a 3 week break after that before the IPL.

IPL final is 31st May, 1st test against New Zealand starts 4th June.

Anyway the good news is as the Ashes have gone so well we won't be making any changes
Head coach Brendon McCullum and director of cricket Rob Key will be given the chance to stay on and show they can improve the England set-up, despite the Ashes defeat in Australia.

I think we will see Rew senior in the squad in the summer and they might leave smith out for a bit, Rew junior will follow in a couple of years. At least one of the Ahmed brothers will be around the squad in the summer as well. Jacks can fuck off back to Surrey he is shit.

if they keep up with the bazball crap and want to keep Smith in don’t be shocked to see him promoted in the order and Rew to come in and keep.

Problem is the pool of players who might be Test quality is too small. Aren't many batsmen knocking on the door. Bowling attack won't change much - not much depth past thequicks they took to Australia. Spinners will remain an unknown quantity as they just won't get the overs to develop / show their skills. Keeper/batsmen is probably the one area of depth - both Rews are keepers, Cox, Robinson to name a few.

Ridiculous they have coaches and back room staff for everything but one of the games key items.
Even more so knowing it cost them the India series - wasn't it something like 9 drops in the 5th test vs India?
Seems to be an attitude of "fuck the proven basics" (catching, bowling lines & length etc) just concentrate on the frilly bits. Let's also be clear it wasn't a top Indian side they couldn't beat it's also an below-par (injury hit) Australia side they haven't been able to compete with.
Everyone seems to be waiting to see what the ECB will do to fix things but they are a huge part of the problem themselves

Exactly. They knew when they were planning for this tour that the fielding wasn’t good enough during the India series. Weird

For those interested I read our drops so far* have gifted Aussies 500+ more runs over the series

*we know there’s more to come !

Should be a doddle really. I'm sure we'll find a way to make it even easier for them.

If Mitchell Starc isn't player of the series, then there's no justice really.
