That's a helluva gate.
Burgle-gate Central in Cov tonight then. That's over a third of the population.

Think a fair few of that lot coming here tonight are probably not going to get in.

I don't mind having someone sat on my lap, as long as it's not some 20 stone lorry driver called Bob with sweaty feet.

as in more or less?

More. They pretty much opened the doors in the end by all accounts. Ran out of tickets on the gate. It wasn't massively more, but definitely more city fans that were at the Wigan game. They had to open two extra blocks for a start.

It certainly felt more than 11'500.

Clearly the club need to make some improvements with getting hold of a ticket and as fans we need to start buying them sooner. There must have been a good few hundred queuing at the windows tonight. I suppose you could argue that tonight's game come to soon of the back of the Milwall game but there's plenty of time now to the Southend game for club and fans to get sorted.

I wonder how many walk-ups did a U-turn when they saw the queue at the windows tonight? Wouldn't be surprised if there was a few.

What were the queues at the cash turnstiles like? There were 4 open tonight, would surely make sense just to open a couple more cash turnstiles. Unless you're collecting tickets I see no reason to queue at the ticket office anyway. Also how many were working at the ticket window, surely its all just about man power? Can't see how they can do it faster without just simply getting more people.

tbh I'm not bothered about queues at the turnstiles, its worth it as it is so much better with north stand closed. Eventually people will get used to it and get there tickets in advance/early, people will be used to turning up 2 minutes before kick off, buying a ticket and walking straight through. It will be a lesson learned for many tonight, as the season goes on the lazy people will learn and plan better which then lifts the load of the ticket office and allows them to operate more efficiently.

Got in at 7.15 with about 3 people in front of me at the cash turnstile.
The queue for the ticket collection point was 50+ deep and heading around the outside of the exhibition hall/casino

Couldn't agree more, turned up@ 7.20 & strolled in through cash stiles. My mates who wanted extra pint queued after leaving casino @ 7.35! I could have said told you so.......

Might be worth them not selling tickets at the ground. If you want to pay on the day cash at the turnstile. It's £20 so there shouldn't even be messing about with change.

Then you just have to deal with ticket collections. Split up by surname so have say 4 staff each doing a quarter of the tickets. Have them all alphabetised ready for collection and you should be able to get it done fairly quickly.

What is the printed barcode entry thing? there were (wasps) signs for this at some of the turnstiles. It's very shit that they don't have a proper eticket entry system where you just key in booking ref.

Embarrassing kick off was delayed as the club couldn't organise themselves for a 1/3 full stadium.

I am not too sure what can be done if hundreds of people want to collect pre ordered tickets at 7.30? The cash turnstyles took 2 or 3 minutes max to go through, season ticket turnstyles less than a minute.

I walked past at 7pm and the queue stretched a good 30 metres past the casino.

Club are struggling big time at the minute in the ticketing department dealing with 'demand' they need to get a grip ASAP.

God forbid the chaos should we half fill the stadium.

If the target is for an 11K season long average why would extra blocks have to be opened to accommodate just 500 more, surely there is a bit of slack for some crowds which will be larger than the average, doesn't add up to me?

Just to clarify, the ticket sales queue was tiny last night. It was the collection queue that snaked round the ground, full of people collecting their tickets that they'd bought since the Millwall game. And the number of people collecting pre-bought tickets is a figure that the club would have known (and if they don't know how many tickets 1 window can distribute in say 15 mins, they bloody should do)...

As it approached 19:45 (and fair play for delaying KO), word spread that both windows were now for collections.

Then a man ran out from the ticket office with a handful of tickets and shouted 'if your surname starts with C, collect your ticket from me'.

Then a woman said if you've got proof of purchase, just show it to the turnstiles and they'll let you in. Cue everyone leaving the queue and heading to the turnstiles. Quite why they couldn't do this anyway, I'm not sure. Every paperless gig I go to handles it well enough.

But yer, shame the lazy people that followed the club's advice to buy online...

Like you say, simple maths would have told them there would be problems. One poor woman behind a single window with several hundred tickets piled up behind her, serving one customer a minute is not going to shift many by kick off. Why on earth have the other window open for ticket sales when you could pay on the gate?

Can't see how they reached that number at all, surely nearer 12,500. The club should be having an extraordinary meeting today to discuss sorting out all aspects of tickets sales and distribution. Quite frankly the service is appalling and having only one employee seemingly who can operate the terminal is ridiculous. Basically they reduced the operation down to 'Sixfields' levels and never bothered to upgrade it. All that fuss and delayed kick off last night for a supposed 11,500 gate is not acceptable.

agreed but too many people still supping pints at 7.30pm and then expecting to pay at the gate and breeze in.

Bit of common sense would help.

but in many cases - they were taking £20 notes for tickets, without anything being registered - just what your local diy trader will do if he wants to avoid a tax bill
