It's next week. Question is, would you go alone?

I was going to go with my daughter, because she really wants to go, and I am always up for any event or festival, but now she says she is going with her friends instead and she has told me I should go alone.

Can't think for a minute I would do that. I'm sure it would be fine, but I just wouldn't feel quite right about it.

Missus wouldn't be seen dead near the place. Complete homophobe.

What do you think? Would you go all by yourself?

I wouldn't personally. Not my sort of thing. My missus went to the Birmingham one a few years back with the girls from work and really enjoyed it.
No problems with gays at all but the really over the top, in your face, look at me type really annoy me and I'd probably end up punching someone so best to stay at home for me.

I can’t think of a good reason not to, they are great fun. I went to my first a few years ago in Brighton and it was fabulous. I was amazed how there were loads of families joining in. What a great way to open up your children’s minds. Life is one huge melting pot and should be embraced by all.

I have two sons, one who is gay the other hetro. I am fiercely proud of them both. They didn’t choose the way they are, they are born that way.

I say, go, grab yourself a rainbow and enjoy. Also well done to your daughter too, what a lovely girl.:singing:

She is. She's straight, but totally embraces the concept. She's still 13, but one of her best friends thinks she is bisexual (that's the friend's belief in herself, not the friend thinking my daughter is).

My daughter just accepts anyone, which is exactly what I have taught her.

Now can you just please come round and convince my missus that peope are born that way, cos she thinks it's a disease you can catch. My daughter has had to keep quiet about going next week. If my wife found out she would ban her from going, because she believes these sorts of events can 'turn you gay.'

Oh and I just can't see me going alone.

Maybe it's the old fashionedness in me. I have no problem with gay people at all, but in my mind I have convinced myself that if I go alone people will think I am on the pull.

It will be full of gay, straight and everything in between so I wouldn’t worry, just go and enjoy yourself!

That's what the one down here in Brighton is like, pretty much everyone goes to it and is basically a piss up with people off their heads on all sorts. I've never been to it the 10 years I have been here but only because I have always been away on holiday/doing something else that weekend.

Just saw that The Yard have Sonique, Living Joy and Baby D playing as well as loads of others.

Bottle of poppers, couple of pills and obligatory sunglasses and you’ll be more than happy chatting away with Roger the 48 year old scaffolder who is in his best little black dress and killer heels!

Errm, no. Not sure which pride you have been to.

This is saying it's a family friendly day. Might change in the evening, mind.

If you want to go the you should do, is it important what people you don't know think?

No.

Two blokes and people might think we are a couple.

Needs to be a group of lads or a female.

No, agree with that. You know what's it like though if you walk in somewhere and people start looking at you?

I've had being an Englishman walking into a Welsh pub and at a West Indian centre where I was the only white person.

It's just about being in an environment you feel comfortable in.

Must be my age/generation but this event creeps me out. Saw a couple of young blokes recently walking hand in hand, and it shocked me. But should I be ? Maybe I should move with the times and accept it is "normal " and not be so prudish. If my dad was alive and saw two blokes holding hands he'd go " look at them bleeding puffs ! "

Went with a friend of mine to Birmingham Pride last year, had a whale of a time. Some of the nicest, open-minded people you'll ever meet. Definitely go

I'm a sensitive old soul, me.

Maybe layer up a bit and go steady on the lippy and latex?

Shows how old I am when I have to Google 'poppers.'

Heard of them for sure, but haven't got a clue what they are.

Amyl Nitrate, as it's proper name.
Supposedly a muscle relaxant for smooth muscles, such as throat and anus if inhaled and you get a rush/high from it.

Just looked and seemingly there is amyl nitrite and amyl nitrate.

According to what I just read it's amyl nitrite that's the popper. Is that correct?

You could well be correct, Otis, not sure on the spelling.

If you would go to other places and events by yourself, what would stop you going to this one?

It's all about feeling comfortable and besides, I don't usually like going anywhere just on my todd, though invariably I do end up on my own.

Maybe I just have one of those come to bed gay faces.

If you don't feel comfortable, why would you consider going in the first place?
