Match Thread Coventry City vs Newcastle United [PL] (H) - CBS Arena - Mon 12 October (8pm KO) (5 Viewers)

Spurs play a bit like Newcastle. Might suit us.
When we play with tempo we are so much better.
Well done boys✊

Never imagined we could win by that margin. Must give the players a huge confidence boost and make them feel like they can play at this level and belong here.

Got a great start and we relied on some immense defending to keep us in it up to HT but then the early goal second half really helped. Got a bit nervy when they scored and looked like we need to make subs (which happened in the end) and then finished the game strongly.

Can't be anything other than really happy with that result.

The one disappointing performance for me tonight was Mason-Clark. He has seemed a little lost at this level so far

Another sub par appearance tonight.

Agree, and his lack of pace was always a concern to me, but sometimes it takes time to find d your feet at a higher level so hopefully he'll get there.

Mfuni has a boldness we need, but don’t know who you could drop for him?
After such a great win I'd have imagined Lampard would be loath to switch things around but I could see us playing 3CB's away from home.

But it's a good problem to have having three CB's all worthy of playing.

Last season it was the defence that you thought might let us down in the PL, now we've got Thomas, Dasilva, Pinnock and Mfuni looking solid and assured. MvE has been a bit ropey but looked more like his proper self tonight.

No clue where to begin. What a night. So many memories to cherish forever.

First PL win at the CBS. Simms first PL goal. Cherif and Mfuni first CCFC goals. Generational performance from Bobby Thomas. Singing it's all gone quiet over there at 3-1.

Did we ride our luck at times? Yes. Do I care? No. Just like Forest: Tenacity and heart in the face of superior on paper opposition. Newcastle fans and manager thoroughly rattled.

Great atmosphere in and around the CBS. God I'm in a good mood now

Rudoni spoke very well in the interview afterwards. Obviously worked on his speech 😅

1 win every 3 now and we have an EXCELLENT chance at staying up.

If we had eeked through 2-1 it would have been great, to have anihalated them is really fantastic.

I feel like we may have been the beneficiary of a questionable refereeing decision. Ref was going to blow for a foul, Simms scored, the referee then played the advantage. Not sure what the rules are, don't give a shit

Basically one of the greatest nights. My liver is grateful it's Monday and not a Saturday

My liver doesn’t know what day of the week it is after that! Work tomorrow morning might be interesting but that’s tomorrows problem

That’s his job fabulous ref delaying the decision to see what happens he’ll be well chuffed with it and should be

I’m getting ahead of myself here, but with Man City’s problems, could buying Mfuni be possible?

Just one match and means very little in the grand scheme of things but by fuck has it shut a few cynics up and opened up the minds for future possibilities 💪🩵🩵
We looked a bit like the crazy gang of yesteryear 😀🍻

So enjoyable. Massive performances all round. Some obvious ones but BTA took some stick but was involved in 3 of the goals and never stopped. Rushworth assured again and Thomas and Pinnock excellent. Mfuni is special

He was signalling advantage before Simms struck it, I think. He delayed blowing the whistle, anyway, waited to see if the ball fell to Simms first.

Let’s not forget Amenda who looked a real defensive prospect too. With Awoniyi and Wright back we’ve got some real options up front, for my £0.02 doing better up the flanks and generally moving the ball up the pitch in a more controlled way are the priorities.
