They may no longer have a home of their own, but that hasn’t prevented Coventry, who’ve won three out of three at their temporary home of St Andrew’s, from making a pleasing start to the campaign. Mark Robins’ men will be looking to remain unbeaten when they face Blackpool on Saturday afternoon.

Three wins and three draws represent a solid start to the campaign for the Sky Blues, who’ve impressed for numerous reasons this term. Despite being forced away from the Ricoh, Coventry have looked very solid when welcoming teams to their temporary home ground, while they’ve shown lots of fight and desire to avoid defeat on the road.

Not only have Coventry won three out of three at St Andrew’s but they’ve also stopped each of their three opponents from scoring. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the Sky Blues have done an excellent job of restricting teams to few chances, conceding expected goals figures of 0.61, 0.9 and 0.63. They’ve also conceded just six shots on target at their adopted home.

Coventry’s defensive figures bode well ahead of a match against Blackpool side that has steadily offered less and less away from home. In their opening away game, the Tangerines scored three goals against a weak Southend side. Next time out, they scored twice away against a rather open Gillingham outfit. However, when last in action on the road, Blackpool found it tough to impose themselves against a Rochdale side that did a good job restricting. On that occasion, Simon Grayson’s men drew a blank, failed to have a shot on target and created only 0.34 expected goals for.

In the betting, ‘Coventry to Win & Under 3.5 Goals’ stands out as a viable option. The way in which the Sky Blues have performed at St Andrew’s this season suggests that they can hold off a Blackpool side that has slowed down offensively over the last few weeks, scoring just one goal in over 180 minutes of League One football. Mark Robins’ men haven’t been imperious going forward, scoring four in three at “home”, but if they continue to prevent their opponents from getting serious in the final third, then they won’t need to do much to get the job done.

Out of interest why the predictions for such a high attendance? If it’s around 7,000 it will beat some Ricoh attendances from the league 2 season.

I agree. The bigger attendances have been a decent away crowd. I'll bet Blackpool don't bring a lot (I havent checked)

However it is a niceish day, we have won three out of three at St Andrews and not conceded. Reports of the experience have been positive, maybe a few more to come along?

First number will be a 6

Someone on the seasider forum said they’d sold the initial 500, rest is pay on the gate.

Today is a test, I’m interested to see how they do

That's how I see it. Wouldn't be gutted at a draw - after today, we will still have Allen to come in and Walsh, Jobello and Kastaneer will improve with game time. So regardless of the result today, I expect the team to improve as the season progresses. Hopefully we won't have the usual meltdown when we hit the inevitable bump in the road (and Blackpool/Burton could well be that - but if we do get past these 2 games undefeated, I will get a little more excited!!)

It won't be over 7K, but the home turnout will be up on the last 2 home league games. Advanced ticket sales pretty strong apparently.

Depends what your definition of not working is. As a unit it’s been underwhelming (I don’t think Jobello has been bad, but Hiwulla has only been noticeable for about 45 mins in all so far). However, the team (and it is a team game), have been good. We’ve won 3, drawn 3, unbeaten and 4th in the league. Did anyone realistically think we’d do better than that? I mean, it’s us, we always screw up! So I’m pretty happy with how it’s going. Today is a test, I’m interested to see how they do.

Not working for me would be either not scoring/creating or allowing their full backs too much space to get forward without being tracked back putting pressure on the defence.

Or to simplify it, I guess it could be put down as 'not winning'!

Big blow for Sky Blues
Coventry City chief executive Dave Boddy has revealed the real reason behind the club drafting in new midfield loan signing Liam Walsh.

The 21-year-old Bristol City player was signed on Monday’s summer transfer deadline day, with manager Mark Robins explaining this week that he was keen to add strength in depth to his squad over the course of a long League One campaign.

Robins said Walsh had always been on their list of targets and that they’d had a phone call on Monday to say he was available.

But Boddy today admitted in his programme notes ahead of the fourth versus third clash with Blackpool at St Andrew’s, that Walsh has been brought in following an injury to skipper Liam Kelly, the full extent of which is not yet known publicly.

He revealed: “When skipper Liam Kelly picked up an ankle injury at Oxford United last Saturday we wasted no time on Monday’s deadline day in bringing in Liam Walsh from Championship club Bristol City.

“The board felt it essential to support Mark Robins in bringing these players in to the club (including full-back Tennai Watson the previous week) in addition to our planned recruitment, which had been complete prior to the injuries.”

Watson was sign over a week ago after Josh Pask suffered an ankle injury and forced to have an operation that will keep him out for up to three months.

It’s not known how serious Kelly’s injury is at this stage but it’s clear that the experienced holding midfielder will be missing for today’s game when Walsh is expected to make his debut as a straight replacement.

Kelly played the full 90 minutes in the 3-3 draw at the Kassam Stadium last weekend when his injury went unnoticed to the wider public.

I wouldn’t have either jobella or kastaneer near my first team until they showed they were team players. They don’t appear to give there all to the cause and I acknowledge there new to this county and settling but at this moment a no thanks from me.

Hopefully they will come good but not impressed by either so far.

I watched the Oxford game back in full on tthurs and kelly did go down on about 83 and then mackie was being a twat trying to pick him up and I thought, be typical if he gets injured here.

Think we needed a like for like replacement anyway so no probs bringing Walsh in as Eccles is not ready for 90 mins week in week out. But hope Kelly is OK, my fav player, our key and captain and when he's on it, he's unreal

What a load of nonsense...
Westbrooke is not good enough, no matter how many times people brandish about his stats. You can’t get an assist or a goal here and there and go missing the rest of the game. Shipley is ok but not good enough in my opinion for a team who wants to be in the play offs. O’Hare is head and shoulders above both.

If you took the time to listen to Godden’s press conference he said something about if Cal isnt fit which I took to mean O’Hare had picked up a knock. Kelly will be out for some time, hence Walsh.

Kelly big miss - literally. Not sure where the midfield steel is coming from today. Walsh is tiny, Westbrooke likes to pass the ball in rather than get stuck in and Shipley has the energy but isn't likely to get that stuck in. Think McFadz has come in for the experience and leadership.

Bakayoko still on bench ahead of Biamou, O'Hare still not starting. Nice to also see Allen on the bench and those two to freshen it up later on could cause problems.

Less confident than I was 10 minutes ago, but not despondent.
