yes, because we were already promoted before that Wolves game

That game was as more of a landmark as we’d never been in the top flight to that point, but Luton is a bigger match what with the riches at stake and what that would do for us

That actually wasn't in my lifetime shmmeee!

Certainly understand to your point how massive and iconic that Wolves game was.

But I would 100% argue the financial gap/profile between the top flight and the league below has historically never been wider - and this is why this game is the most important we have ever played.

Will be the same as usual until the cards start. That's when the fun will start. Will they try to be sly when on a yellow with the cameras watching or just let Gyokeres run past them? Or even trying to rip his top off him in the area.

Eccles will need to stop his diving though

I'd wager a quarter of them were Hamer in the first 7 matches

In my opinion - this game is far bigger than 87 given the implications for the future of this club (and that's not diminishing anything about the memories of 87 either).

That is said a lot we wasn’t already promoted before or after the Wolves game but we’re in a pretty unassailable position we drew at Ipswich the next game which confirmed our promotion, winning the division was confirmed last match of the season by beating Millwall and Wolves losing to Palace.

bit different to the ‘greatest manager’ debate, way too many options.. Everton ‘85, QPR ‘86, Wembley ‘87, Spurs ‘97, the list goes on.

Certainly the highest stakes. An amount of money on the line that is beyond both club’s wildest dreams

I would simply argue croat that this is far bigger given the huge gulf between the divisions. The Premier league is on a completely different global scale compared to the 80s/90s.

I agree however the state we were in in 1985 we may never have got back up which would have meant no ‘87 etc

anyway this one is way more subjective than the greatest manager debate, there are loads of credible options

I think it’s the one off nature and the prize at the end that really makes the difference. League campaigns while it feels like it comes down to one game are won or lost over 40 odd games. The FA Cup did great things for the club and put them on the football map, but a PL place today is on another level both financially and in terms of recognition.

I heard a figure of &160m for the winners of this. Not this game alone , of course, but when you get to the Prem you sure do collect £200 for passing Go

I believe it is classed as the richest prize in sport.
£130million plus. Mind blowing.

I think I saw £158m over three years compared to staying in the Championship. Assuming you come straight back down.

If we can go two games without conceding against Boro then I struggle to see Luton breaking us down. Also consider Luton only beat Boro thanks to a dodgy penalty and also lost away at Sunderland.

And won four points off Sheff Utd , beat Boro at Luton. Second lowest goals against in the Championship , Burnley had 7 defeats , we had 8.
A bad team doest get 80 points in a season.
Next Saturday is truly a one-off, the 46 games played in the league mean nothing

Yep , my error there, and yes exactly what I said. Last 46 games bear no relevance to Saturday other than the injuries they may have inflicted on the squad

It was stated by EFL that the winner of this game is guaranteed £178M over next 3 seasons including parachute payments

Yeah but I think you get £20m in the Championship so I’m guessing £158m is the difference.

I think your memory is letting you down there, the win against Wolves meant the City were Guaranteed premonition, hence the 50+k crowd and then on the last game of the season the home win against Millwall and a defeat for Wolves at Crystal Palace meant the City are Champions.

Yes I think so.

Like.m to have Godden in reserve if the game opens up with a goal a la wedbesday night. I didn't think we had enough game changers with Godden starting at home for when it didn't work out..

Spent this afternoon wheelbarrowing 2.5 tonnes of soil and 1 tonne of bark chippings from the front driveway to the very bottom of the back garden. All for the latest garden idea of my partners, which will likely change again in a few months.

How different next Saturday will be…..

And most importantly; keeps me in the good books ahead of a weekend where anything could happen!

Blackburns failure to beat Bolton three days before the Wolves game confirmed our promotion. By the time we met, both Wolves and ourselves were up.
