I was staying in London the weekend of that game, so made my way to Wembley across the city. The amount of Man Utd followers who got on the tube with local Southern accents was quite astonishing. They really are an obnoxious fan base who were given a club to support with no deep feelings or love .
Our road means everything to us . There's is just meaningless.

I photographed a wedding in Grimsby last year and when the groom was putting on his cufflinks, I saw they were Man U cufflinks so I made a comment about the game. He didn't have a clue they even got to the final, after he said he's never been to a single game, but owns all the merch. Pretty much sums up every united fan I've ever met.
On the plus side, last wedding season all the guests who were checking their phones for scores when I mentioned I was a Cov fan, they either said how well we're doing, or spoke about the cup and how we should have been there (I even have a picture from one wedding where the grooms written how I'm still salty over the FA cup, which I am).

Similar tale, I was at Statfold Country Park last Saturday as there was a Thomas The Tank Engine themed weekend and my wife's grandson is Thomas mad.

I struck up a conversation with a guy who was wearing a navy cap and a club crest badge sewed on the left side identical to mine the only difference is his had a Tottenham badge.

Almost the first thing he said was he hadn't been to the 'new stadium' and he hadn't been to their 'old ground' for years!!

Enough said.

It was a gutting decision, maybe correct but the utter distillation of why VAR ruined football, forensically searching for a reason to disallowed a goal when it's obvious advantage was gained by Hajis stationary big toe against an already moving defender way before the goal was scored. Roll on the Wenger rule, makes far more sense to me, daylight atleast means that attacker has gained a clear advantage.


Part of me worried that Man United Semi was the peak. Now we are on the brink of something more important I can just about admit we were also pretty lucky, never a pen for us, the massive deflection from O'Hare and Simms scoring the best shinner I've ever seen!
