It’s straightforward.

For promotion we need 4 points. They can be points we win OR points BOTH Boro and Millwall drop

For the title we need 10 points. They can be points we win OR points Ipswich drop.

We win and Boro and Millwall drop 2 points = 5 points = promotion.

We draw and Boro and Millwall lose = 4 points = promotion.

We win and one or more of them wins = 3 points and we go to next game needing 1 point for promotion. Etc
We can sit back and watch them drop points at any time between now and the end of the season. 87 will be more than enough for promotion.

Surely the party begins as soon as we are promoted?

Are we seriously suggesting their won't be wild celebrations if we are promoted on Saturday?
No. There will be wild celebrations on Saturday if we win, of course. Even bigger when the title is secured

That's okay. We all view things differently.
I'm old school. I was brought up in the era of Billy Bremner's book, 'You get nowt for being second.'
That used to be the case. Runner-up, coming second ... is being first loser.

Then being second, third, fourth etc gradually got more and more rewards. The world changed.

I remember years of Cov being scoffed at for being 15th, 16th, 17th every year. Now it is seen as success.
As I said, we all view things differently.

We're going to do both, obviously. Promoted and as champions

I am just so eager to get that first part over the line and am chomping at the bit.

Can't wait and the sooner the better. Be so fantastic to be promoted with 4 games still to go.

Obviously some people will have a different take to me, but going up is the main thing for me. Though we'll do both I'm sure

Same here. Am reminded of that first away game against Stockport and saying to my mate on the way out of the ground, "piece of piss this league..."

Twenty-five years later...

I don't think we'll confirm it this weekend.
Fancy baggies to take something off Millwall but can't see boro dropping points to Portsmouth.
Would normally agree, but they've had one massive wobble since going top for a game.

Coventry A L
Oxford H D
Leicester H D 😂
Birmingham A W
QPR A W
Charlton H L
Bristol City H D
Blackburn A D
Millwall H L
Swansea A D

Last 10 games W2 D5 L3. 11 points from 10 games.

Portsmouth are playing for their survival. Last 2 games draw away to Norwich who only managed 6 shots with 2 on target, and home draw with Oxford. Can't see a Portsmouth win, but a draw wouldn't be a surprise.

Edit had them as a draw at home to Charlton but they lost 😆

Agree with this. Think Pompey are more than capable of bagging a draw here.

Boro are really wobbling and their confidence must have been hit as a result

Last 5 games just 3 points and struggling to score goals. These games were against the sides in 18th, 11th, 19th, 4th and 15th. 4 goals for 6 against.

We just need to come out all guns blazing, get an early goal and Wednesday will be there for a few more. The longer it's 0-0 or they sneak a 1-0 lead it will be harder.I was only bothered about promotion but now we are this much in front and have been top since October I think( apart from 6 days when the best team In the league took over for less than a week)I want the championship title that would be a fantastic achievement.I won't be running on no pitch until that title is achieved, and then get off and watch us lift the trophy. But let's gets 3 points Saturday first.

I've put this in another thread

If we win this weekend and promotion is confirmed then a board marking the achievement is likely to be erected after the game at Blackburn Rovers on Friday, April 17, where over 7,000 fans will be making the trip for the televised game at Ewood Park.

but the way I see it there's going to be numerous parties/celebrations,
1. for promotion which might be confirmed this weekend,
2. the promotion board at Blackburn to confirm it
3 for title confirmation at home to Portsmouth
4.for the title lift at home to Wrexham
and then one for the parade.

So all in all we are getting pissed from this weekend onwards 😂

Have to say now promotion is inevitable, I also want first.

Other than wanting it for us as a club and fans. I’d also hate to miss out to Ipswich - they’ve become a team I strongly dislike, alongside Southampton, based on antics this season.
Don't worry yourself. Championship champions shouldn't take too long to be confirmed as long as we beat Sheffield Wednesday. Ipswich have a very hard run in and are 12 points plus GD behind. The win would put us 15 points ahead of their present total with just 7 games to go. That's 5 wins just to catch up on points. Lose to Norwich and it's 6 games remaining.

I can't see anyone beating Southampton in the playoffs although anything can happen. Just have to hope Ipswich struggle with their run in.

The only thing is there, is that the Norwich v Ipswich game is on at the exact same time as ours, so we will only go 15 points ahead if they lose.

Would have been better if their game was later than our kickoff, because then a win for us would heap more pressure on them to win the game.

Ipswich will already expecting us to beat Sheffield Wednesday so already know they have to beat Norwich.

I was at a U2 concert in Manchester that night I had to sit in Stockport end as tickets sold out.On the bus on the way back to Manchester there was a load of Man city fans on the bus who went and they were all saying Coventry will go straight back and piss this league, how wrong were they.25 years of mainly terrible things happening to the club apart from the last few years and it's time for us to shine and I love how all the jealous fans of other clubs hate the fact we absolutely pissed this league after 25 years.

Yes, get that, just that Lamps said we would be 15 points ahead of Ipswich if we win our game. That obviously only comes in tandem with Ipswich losing.

It's probably just the way it's worded, but to me it comes across like if we win we will be 15 points ahead and then Ipswich play Norwich.

All we need to do is keep winning I don't want Ipswich anywhere near the title.

Same

I think Norwich will get at least a point tomorrow. They do still have a very faint chance of the playoffs, though would have to win every single game and hope others fail, but I fancy their chances on Saturday.

They are playing well and on a good run. They have won 4 of their last 6 matches and lost just the once, to Southampton, 1-0.

100 pts, 100 goals, nice novelty trips to Stockport and Grimsby and Lee Hughes will make himself a cult hero...

He said that if we win we'd be 15 points beyond Ipswich's current points tally.
