In fairness , we looked awful first half

I'm not going through every page of this thread because I'm sure it's been covered, but my GOD the pre-match was fucking phenomenal. Whatever doubts I had about the awkwardness of the special live performance followed by the minute's silence blown away by pure spectacle and an utterly biblical rendition of PUSB, I swear I could feel the very foundations of the CBS vibrating under my feet.

First half was kind of piss-poor, but whatever Lampard said during the break clearly worked wonders as we turned it up a gear and SU couldn't cope. It is beyond a joke to me how well JDS is playing and how much our gameplan relies on him, MVE had another stormer, Grimes was superb and I'm still recovering from Liam Fucking Kitching spinning out an attempted challenge; there cannot be anything else that sums up the confidence within this team better.

The only matter for concern for me yesterday was Lampard clearly has little to no faith in the squad beyond the established starting XI; with several players clearly struggling to keep up with SU's increased pace near the end, it's so bizarre to me that only one change was made in the second half and it took until the 90th minute.

Yeah I agree there, we had some big chances in that first half. Could have been 4-4 at half time!

Just in from the game. Thought their heads dropped a little in the first half after they scored. Almost as though they were feeling the occasion and the importance of wanting to bounce back from Wrexham. Second half a different story, as soon as we equalised their tales were up and it's as though their confidence came back.

A big difference EMC made, instantly felt the game was going to change. He gave us an outlet down that left and they didn't have an answer for it. I noticed in the first half every time we tried to play down the left BTA would make a run inside. Not his fault, just his instinct is going to make him drift inwards, we couldn't break them down as a result. Good to see a half time change.

What a difference it made having Thomas back in the line up, a brick wall. MOTM.
Tats work rate again brilliant.
Shout out to Jamie Allen for that energy he came on with and burst at the end.

I thought we are going to win this once we scored. You could see Sheffield lose confidence immediately they conceded.

I was hoping for more when Bobby scored but after that Sheffield became much more competative and put City under pressure.

Boo boy O'Hare continued to play well and almost scored near the end.

That last minute goal as well as providing immense relief was also indicative of great vision and selfless teamwork.

Not ashamed to say it was a tears in the eyes moments as the Enemy finished. Right idea not to play music after the Enemy had finished and let the crowd generate our own atmosphere.

Like other teams that go through ups and downs though and like i was saying about Stokes 2 big wins (as they usually keep games very low scoring) its a very small sample size. I expected Birmingham to be near the top 6 but very underwhelming for the most part and i'd need to see a bit more, especially away, to consider them any kind of worry. I'm glad Ipswich dropped points again as they are the one everyone seems to think will put it together at some point.
Fact is a good start counts for a lot as all those teams have to go on a hell of a run to catch us now.

It's funny how quickly things change in football. Just a few months ago we were hoping to play these in the play-off final, but back then even if we had made it very few were giving us much chance. Now we are 22 points ahead of them, and there would have been meltdown on here if we hadn't won last night.

Tonight, not sure they were brilliant and at times thought they looked very average but they fought back and made changes to turn it around. Mason Clark caused us real problems and we struggled with the movement of the front players all game. I felt they just upped the intensity for 20 minutes after the break and played higher up the field and with quicker, more physical players, they imposed themselves and did what they had to do. In the end they were hanging on a bit but we did not seriously threaten and score a clincher. They deserved to win on chances and on overall possession/touches in the box and control of the game when it mattered. At half time they were probably wondering if it was another defeat but they really reacted and as Preston did in the last away game for United, they just upped it and they ran faster, won tackles and drove at our players. They got balls in the box and we fell apart. In the end, it was a deserved victory for them even if they were not superb. They did what they had to do.

Opponent Man of the Match – Thomas got it on Sky and scored the winner and was dominant against our slow strikers who do not move but thought Grimes played well second half and Mason Clark made a huge difference. Thomas Assante was decent throughout and always lively.

Opponent Weak link – Thought that Kitching was not up to the level of his partner but Eccles was poor first half as Peck did well to control midfield but they improved hugely after he went off.

Even their first choice keeper was struggling with the wet conditions, but the sub looked hopeless.

Small point from last nights game …Ref noticed every single time Sheffield encroached 5-10 yards on their throw ins and told them to get back. Player duly moved back and then under the full observation of the Ref, just carried on taking the extra distance. Must have happened 3 or 4 times.

Not the first opposition fans to have said that after recent games, i got the same from Blackburn and Watford fans too, also saw Windass on Sky Sports saying Wrexham upped their game that night against us and he felt they had turned a corner.
It's something we are going to have to face now, being at the top of the league, despite how teams are playing in previous games, they are going to try and perform better when they face us. It'll be like a free hit.

Looking forward to seeing how we do against Stoke and Boro.

Agree with that except for kithcing who I thought was excellent again

True. Granted he didn't bring some of those players in over the summer, he can usually still get a tune out of teams. They are very much in the position we were in last season, low in confidence and needing a boost. I bet he shifts a few out in January and i've no doubt they will have a turn in fortunes.
For once, i'm glad it's not us with with a challenging start to deal with and it feels good.

I can't decide if i think it will be a cagey game, or both sides will go at it.
Same as always for my hopes though, go to win and if we can't, then don't lose.
If the worst happens, we still go into the break top, players get a chance to regroup, refresh and be ready for the next one.
