Wright has a more proven track record for us on the wing than any EMC alternative.

So JDS is under instruction and it's not his fault but it's Kitching's fault if he is left trying to cover the space where JDS should be and the striker?

I'm sure Lampard wants Dasilva in the 10...

Need to see some training footage of Big Frank running around like a mad man, smashing everyone up in his first session. Maybe some Yang bangers thrown in.

As well as Eccles did, I'd bring Torp in.
prufrock said:
Anyone else thinks Eccles should be starting ahead of both Rudoni and Torp at the moment? He was pretty much the only player to have come away with some credit against QPR.

Also, despite the injury derailing the first part of his season, he has contributed 4 goals already this season (he had scored 5 previously in all his seasons combined with the club). I like that he was on the far post with a clever header at the weekend. He has also had some great finishes from outside the box too.

For a game against Oxford with a very good player Brannagan in midfield energy might be key. Start Eccles and replace with Rudoni or Torp after an hour if the game is still in the balance? It's a tricky one because Torp and Rudoni on their day have a bit more offensively but I think there is an argument to be had for having the "if you get get a chance and perfrom well you keep the shirt" mantra.

Eccles scored a good goal but overall was no more than ok on Saturday. We play better with Torp on the team, and miss his progressive passing when he's not playing. He wasn't great the other week tbf, but we are still better with him in the team.

And it was true at the time. This is the best season in years where the stars have aligned for us so perfectly to be in this position...the 3 relegated teams being poor for the first 20 games - with only Ipswich hitting form, Cov having an unusually decent start to the season, teams like Sheff Utd having a poor start.

The likelihood of all of that happening before season was likely very slim.

No way Kitching should be playing saturday, hes been liability of late that Wolf or Lati deserve a chance.

Dont think KKh is fit, so rules out him.

Onyeka / Grimes / Torp or eccles - no rudoni.

Tats / Wright / Esse (guess EMC injured)

Tactically tweak - just get full backs to sit in / stay compact in middle and trust your gun players to create magic.

He changed against Leicester and worked - not seen it since.

Alarms are ringing, its not terminal, but if see the same old stuff again from players, which ultimately is from FL - then its serious serious worry.

Well yeah, and that's tactical instructions. They aren't just wandering up field for the fun of it with Lampard going mental on the sidelines.

If you've got an issue with it that's fine, but that's on Lampard not MVE and Dasilva.

If they were letting wingers dribble past them or getting caught by a ball inside them (like Dasilva was last year) then yes that's individual errors.

Being high up the pitch is not an individual error, it's a tactical issue.

How do you think Dasilva has performed over the last 3 season here under the two managers?

According to you this season he is "vital to how we play" so I assume you believe under Lampard he has seen his best performances here?

To be fair, if we're going to drop defenders who have been a liability then the whole back 4 needs changing.
They're not helped by the tactics but they've all been poor individually as well.

Dont disagree. Does that just destabilise even more.

No issue if drop both centre half's . Kitching and JDS particularly been brain dead. MVE gets away with it a little because of his pace, JDS cant, so stop it.

Like everybody when Lampard was appointed I expected him to be a disaster and was therefore astonished by the team roaring to the top of the league. We probably over-performed during that period and I can remember saying to my friends, “This is Coventry City. We don’t do this!”

We were scoring 2.9 goals a game in October / November Now we are scoring 1.1. goals per game and the teams below us have all managed to put together a fantastic run of wins now. They have incredible momentum now. We’ve lost ours.

It’s difficult to see Lampard finding a way out of this. He looks rather lost now in post-match interviews. At the same time I have a certain amount of sympathy for him. It must be dismaying to fritter away a 13-point lead.

The bitterness on the City fan forums is quite astonishing. Some people are even saying that King should sack Lampard now. Get a new manager in to freshen things up and consolidate. That might work but I can’t see King doing that.

I think perhaps Lampard should be bold and reshuffle the team , even though I know we don’t have a great amount of strength in numbers. I really hope the lads can turn things around and we should give them our best support.

Personally, id stiull play wright as ST, but mix in the new wingers, i dont think wright and simms work well in a LW/ST formation,

It won't happen and it would be too destabilising I agree.
Hopefully with a bit more steel in midfield we might tighten things up a bit.

Just think some of the arguments (not necessarily referring to your post), about individual defenders are a bit like 2 bald men arguing over a comb as they've all been poor for weeks now, particularly on the road.

So the way Lampard deploys him is actually getting the best out of an obviously limited player at this level?

Playing high up the pitch suits his abilities better yes.

What silly little gotcha are you trying to attempt here?

The two at the back are both a heartbeat away from an error too, which exacerbates the problem.

King's target is for us to reach the play-offs each season and then sneak into the PL one of those years. Even if we end up losing in the play-offs, I don't think he'd sack Lampard.

This is the part I don't understand though. The player has 1 assist and 0 goals in a team that has scored 63 goals this season. If the attacking side of his game suits his abilities better, where is the output?

His stats show he is actually having a good season, on the ball and defensively…except for the glaring number of times he’s been dribbled past which is how we’ve been conceding quite often.

I agree he probably should have more assists. But he ranks in the 98th percentile for progressive passes, 95th percentile for passes into the final third and 88th percentile for passes into the penalty area.

He's not the kind of fullback to beat a man and whip a cross in, which would likely lead to more assists - but he's an important part of our buildup play, links well with EMC/Rudoni and is one of Grimes' most used outlets.

Yeah, I get that. Some player said a season or two ago that if they had a 5aside team, they would pick him, which I can understand.

Given that his goal contributions are virtually zero, and he is one of the shakiest players at the back. 1) What does that say about our other LB options, and 2) Surely we can do better in that position. He is an obvious weak link for me, but as others have said, the whole defence have been shite for a while as well. Kitching in particular seems to have a glaring error every match.

It’s very odd that we have invested millions of pounds, in some cases 8 figures, in certain parts of the pitch, but haven’t paid a fee for a left back quite possibly since the late 2000s unless I’m missing someone obvious.
