i completely agree with what you’re saying and the more i think about it the more it feels like ellis simms is standing at a proper crossroads in his career because we’ve all seen strikers with his physical profile his strength his presence and his ability to score goals but the thing that separates the ones who make a real impact from the ones who just drift along is that ruthless streak that absolute refusal to be handled by defenders and right now it feels like simms has been hovering somewhere in between those two worlds because there are moments where you see him bully a defender hold up the ball perfectly and stick it in the back of the net and you think yes that’s the player we need every single week but then there are stretches where he goes quiet he doesn’t really throw himself into challenges he doesn’t dominate aerially like he could and the defenders are able to contain him far too easily and in this division if you give defenders a chance to get comfortable you’ve already lost half the battle because they’re tough physical players who love nothing more than a forward who doesn’t push them to their limits and the thing is we all know he’s got the raw attributes he’s got that heavyweight boxer frame the ability to turn a man the pace to make runs in behind and the finishing touch when he’s confident but confidence only comes if you earn it through hard work aggression and taking risks in games and it’s not just about scoring goals either it’s about being that focal point the kind of player who makes the team play better because he’s occupying two centre backs every game bringing the midfield into play creating space for the wingers and being a nightmare to mark for ninety minutes straight and that’s what i think the expectation has to be for him now because last season there were far too many times where he drifted on the edges of games hoping for service instead of demanding the ball and making things happen himself and we can’t afford for him to be that player again because this is a season where we’re aiming for promotion we’ve got the squad the ambition and the momentum to do something big but it’s going to need our number nine to lead from the front with both goals and presence and if he comes out from the first game with that aggressive mindset throwing himself into every challenge dominating in the air using his body to shield the ball and getting into those ugly scrappy goal scoring positions then he could easily be the twenty goal striker we’ve been missing but if he lets another season pass him by without really stamping his authority on games then his career is going to start drifting because you only get so many chances at this level before clubs start looking at you as a backup rather than a starter and that’s a label that’s hard to shake once it sticks and i think for simms this season is make or break because he’s got everything in his locker to be a top championship striker but he’s got to decide if he’s going to bring it every single week or if he’s going to let it slip away and in football once those chances are gone they’re gone for good

Yes they were, the ref let lots go too, probably let too many go and didn't use his cards enough, which is why it kept kicking off. If anything the issue was inconsistency in the decisions

Happy to see Torp given the nod ahead of Sheaf. Had a really good pre-season and deserves it imo.

BTA starting too. Can only assume Hadji would've started had he been fully fit but gets the nod ahead of Simms. Let's hope he takes this opportunity and it works. For his sake and ours.

2x LBs on the bench..... how on earth are we going to cope with such a bloated squad

Got a good feeling about today. I'm saying 3-0. Nice early goal will make them have to come out and play and give us room to create chances.
Rudi, BTA and Torp on the score sheet.

I agree. And a slight nudge when airborne can have big impact and lead to goal so I don't mind that one so much. Can go either way and not worth over analysing
