Burge
Grimmer (hopefully) Willis McD Haynes
DKE Stevenson Doyle Shipley
Duck McNulty

If no Grimmer then the same back four from last night, midfield worries me a little, we got over run in the middle of the park when Maycock came on last night but they were chasing an equaliser
Don't think Crawley will be as ambitious as Stevenage, giving Stevenson a bit more time on the ball.
If we get two up bring on Maycock alongside Doyle for one of the front two, and push Stevenson forward behind the lone striker to sure things up

Assuming Shipley can play centre midfield,

Burge

Grimmer Davies McDonald Stokes

Vincenti Doyle Shipley Haynes

Nazon McNulty

We have plenty of options.

We got caught short yesterday and could not legislate for such bad injurys to key players at crucial times.

Maycock was awefull when he came on ran around like headless chicken, shirked every challenge snd had such a heavy touch.

Stevenson has to play, lad is pure class. We have to fit him in if kelly isnt fit. He is pkaying better now so get him in. He has that magic.

maybe time for stokes to come back in, haynes whole plus side is attack and he rarerly beats a man and when he does he cant cross.

vincente as a sub or starting wide.

His presence in the final third is important though especially without Jones now as well, his movement helped create the first goal at Luton for example and buys the wingers more time and space, if Stokes' fitness has improved put him back in but I think we need both LB & RB getting forward at home especially.

Stokes does get forward in fairness, he had started to anyway before he went out of the side.

He just isn't as much as a threat over 90 minutes going forward compared to Haynes, we have very strong cover from the centre halves and Doyle/Kelly to fill in when the full backs get forward, we should be exploiting that more at home.

Stokes doesn't carry the same threat currently going forward that he did a couple of seasons ago, I prefer him left sided centre back than full back if required at the moment

Some very big decisions MR had to make in the next few days, does he stick or twist with the current system.
To stick he's likely gotta play Nazon, McNulty or Vincenti on the right. That don't suit McNulty and isn't ideal for Nazon who's better centrally. That leaves it to the out of form and favour Vincenti but then you've also taken any pace out the wide areas. Only other option is Haynes who you can ask to play in a more advanced role and bring Stokes in at the back but then that only works if Grimmer is fit. Doing that moves Shipley out of the left spot but that can be done by putting him in for Kelly to retain his set piece attributes or recall another poor performer in Stevenson who is also a set piece man.

Very quickly Haynes and Grimmer have just become 2 key attacking ball carrying progressive players as we've still got 6/7 league games till the window opens with JJ looking very doubtful this year at least.

The key is not to make too many changes each week. Try and keep the side the same as much as possible. Let them grow into each others game and build their confidence together. It's working pretty good so far. The odd game a player has a poor performance you don't dislodge the team because of it. The next game he plays he will likely perform better again. Case in point Haynes. We have to be realistic that Haynes will provide more chances for the team and even sneak an odd goal than Stokes will ever do.
I would only bring in Stevenson for Jones, a player on his day can improve the team, and be a goal threat. Hopefully Kelly with only a bruised foot will be fit.
That said, with our fairly solid defence give Haynes the remit to roam forward much more and probably play three at the back and 5 in midfield.
We are at home, we should set up to go forward. That's how Nazon will score, not by coming deep to collect the ball. Crawley let plenty of goals in so we should look to press them high up the pitch.
I don't think it's a major issue, we just need to get the tactics right.
3-0 City

I really do like the look of this team/shape. What you just mentioned or a slight tweak:

------Willis----Davies-----McDonald
Grimmer-------Doyle------------Haynes

------Stevenson-----------Shipley

I can see MR patching things up and staying with the same formation for this weekend given the little time to adapt to a new formation and then having 8 days to get tactics, player roles drilled in for the cup games and another week till Morecambe so 2 weeks off L2 action to adapt a new plan should he feel the need to.

This sounds sensible to me!

I'd be disappointed if an average performance by us still didn't scrape a win on Saturday.

Yes it is sensible...but I think Grimmer will come back into the side (Fresh pair of legs) More naturally suited to Right back than Willis. Bear in mind two tough back to back away games.

Which means Dropping Willis or Davies as centre backs , if as you suggest they wont tinker with system. Davies would be hard done by if dropped as I think hes been one of the best players in both games.

This is true, Willis didn't take to the right back role and looked a weak link, his positional plays not been the best and looks more comfortable as a central player these days. Filled in tho and did a job.

I'd be inclined to drop Jordan Willis and retain Tom Davies, he has shown a little more in his spells in the side and is a much more added threat at corners. We've looked far more dangerous since he's been in the side.

Think this is more down to the deliveries of Shipley

Haynes carries about as much threat as the Isle of Sark army.

It's certainly helped as JJ wasn't the best...
but I do think Davies is very comfortable and strong in the air. Willis isn't and I'd be tempted to make the transition into the winter months with him at the centre of the plans with Mcdonald as sides go more direct.
Willis has been largely solid but I'm not so confident in him against direct sides. Davies seems to relish them games and is more natural centre back.

Just my opinion, but although our defence is good, we need to play a keeper behind them?

we don't have any wingers, we have 2 attacking full backs and we have an abundance of decent CB's (at least 5)

Wing backs seems the ideal formation

Stokes in for Haynes and Stevenson for Kelly if not fit. Stevenson really needs to deliver a performance as I feel it could be last chance saloon especially with January coming up and going by this seasons outings wouldn't really be a miss.
If we get the 3 point's 7 out of the last 9 will be a good return.

Very harsh on Willis to drop him though its not his fault he has been moved out of position

I'd not be dropping his for his dip in performance, he moved to cover the right back spot to help the side out, it wasn't his best games but I've not judged it on that.

I'm more judging it on how I see the games going over the next few months and what qualities he can bring to the side. In my view Tom Davies has a few more strings to his bow and has what we will need to cope with added with the extra threat in the opposition box he causes, I think he can add much needed goals or assist in getting them.
Wills has been very good this season with Mcdonald, he's made a few mistakes but they all do and will.

So not replace Jones with anyone then? You think maybe the ref will let him on to the pitch with his crutches?

Surely much more likely for Stokes to come in but for Haynes to be pushed further forwards. I guess though that MR might well play Vincenti and Shipley as the two wide men.

I'm not too worried if we're without Jones for one game.

He's been a real asset this season no doubt, but I think some other players will actually flourish more not being in his shadow. It will be more of a team performance. It also might allow Robins to change it a little bit and set us up to be a bit more creative.

I say the above with a bit of hope, but I don't think it will be too bad at all.

Don't think he's got much choice. I think most of us have not been that impressed with Vincenti, but I don't think we have much choice. If you were to play the likes of Maycock (for Kelly), Shipley (already playing) AND Devon Kelly-Evans (for Jones) that's an very inexperienced line up in midfield.
