Cov Telegraph Censorship? (6 Viewers)

Does anyone read the "Comments" sections underneath City articles on their site?

I do usually have a quick scan, but less so of late as it is so slow with all the advertising. It's almost becoming un-useable!

But my point is: a LOT of comments seem to be being removed of late. Normally you'd think this is because it is an abusive comment, or some far-out ramblings of a madman. But a lot of these comments have a large number of likes: one of the ones today had 25 likes, which was about the same as the numerous other anti-SISU posts on the thread.

This got me thinking..are these posts being deleted because the CT legal department have been getting a prod from SISU? If anyone knows what these comments are, I'd love to hear-they wouldn't be getting so many "likes" if they weren't at least reasonable observations. I know one of the ones today had The Royal Scam who is a regular on here posting just below.

I've had comments deleted for no apparent reason. They are often humourous but in no way offensive.

On the other hand I've seen comments left intact which were deliberately racist or inflammatory.

Go figure?

It cannot be good reading if its the same anti sisu comments can it ?
Maybe not censorship.

Do the deleted comments accuse SISU of lying?

They legally have to delete comments that suggest that.

There were one or two posts on here accusing them of being crooks yesterday that I thought were on slightly dodgy ground too.

I did a journalism course many years ago and one of the very first things you are taught is "Libel Law". It is so important to any form of journalism (print, TV, Radio or internet), that the featured item causes no libel whatsoever. I think that for this reason, many anti-SISU posts are withdrawn ASAP. It is the Telegraph that would be hit with the lawsuit not the letter writer.

Surely a simple disclaimer would solve that "comments represent the views and opinions of the poster and not that of Trinity Mirror Plc or the Coventry Telegraph" sort of thing

Otherwise, where's our right to free speech?

Right to free speech doesn't mean you can make all kinds of accusations on a hosted site. Signing up to such sites includes a disclaimer that they reserve the right to remove anything they like.

Posts such as 'SISU are lying cnuts' without any argument or reasoning serve no real purpose and are potentially libellous.

Rather than use the words 'liars, lying, lies' I prefer to use the Brodyism 'mis-communication':

"This for me is nothing more than typical SISU/Dulieu spin (or 'mis-communication'), a PR disaster, and an insult to Sky Blues fans' intelligence."

I've had a few removed and I am careful not to accuse SISU of anything directly. Maybe I've hit the nail on the head a few times, LOL.

There are literally hundreds of other anti-SISU posts still on there. I get the feeling that some are removed as they may have stumbbled across some truth in their allegations!
