Hi all,
Not heard anything / don't know anything, but if I recall from a previous thread, the stumbling block of the return of Baker was a possible fee - could MR now use some of the Thomas money on this or is this deal unlikely?
Apart from Moorhouse - any other players being rumoured?

If we pay a fee for a nearly 35 year old I'd be livid, especially when money is so tight.

Doesn't it depend on how much - a nominal fee would be OK?
No guarantees with that age, but if we pay (say) £100,000 you would have to expect him to be a first team selection for this year and hopefully next season, in league one. Would he hold a position?

I wouldn't have thought so SSB.
If he was coming back I think it would have happened early on.
Don't see money changing hands here.

Regarding Baker, I believe he started the game in their win over Rochdale, so looks like he's in the manager's thoughts.

As we've lost a long term prospect, we need to reinvest the money in another player for the longer term. We'll get nowhere otherwise.
Could argue that we have a reasonable pipeline of potential players (that will be gone before they hit their peak) and investing in a player that makes a significant difference in us returning to league one, even if only useful for two years, might be worth it...
Not saying that Baker is this player - perhaps another experienced player who will make a difference. (Doyle is proving his worth so far).

Baker has been moved to center midfield and not doing that well there. He will be moved back to the right side and does have a role to play there according to our manager.

This would be a great signing for you, we've released him as we are after a Cardiff player
Gary Roberts: Portsmouth midfielder leaves club by mutual consent

He can play all those roles. Very good engine, tough tackler and scored 14 for us. Gets on well with Roberts.
Ok, cheers. Did you mean he gets on with Doyle?

What sort of midfielder is he? Attacking/Defensive/Box to Box etc.?

Free agent, now that's a little more interesting than a Baker return.
Hes a left footed player who played the no 10 role I believe the last 2 years at Portsmouth.

Notched 10 last year in Pompey's promotion campaign.

33 but one I'd seriously consider!

Lol Yes, sorry got confused. Don't know why he was training own on his own very much a team player. Can only assume the new manager wanted to move on a few players, wage budget and all that.

Based on the number of people on social media begging for his return, any transfer fee would be made back on shirt sales, wouldn't it? It'll be our version of the Neymar deal. Seriously though, id take him back on a free but would begrudge spending money on him.

We make pennies off shirt sales.

Couldn't disagree more FP, if a player gets us up this year then it's paid its way.
Yes ideally you want to plan for the future but we need to get out of this division as a priority.

We also don't want to come back again next year, though appreciate your point too.

At every level proven exists

Not really - strikers who perform well regularly move upwards. Look at all the fuss around Collims who is at best hit or miss.
