Mean estimate 61 m so 0.8% mortality. That pandemic disproportionately affected the young, as it had developed from a common strain to which older people had some immunity. So, roughly 1% of the world's population caught the disease, of which 1% died as either a direct or co-morbid result of the virus.

My own worry about this is absolutely based on recent experience and not really on anything that rational. Hard to rationalise tbh especially recognising the lack of provision for a serious outbreak of respiratory illness.

Rugby Free school.hsve just put out a statement to say that one of their students has been confirmed as having Corona virus.
He'd been to northern Italy and then come home and self isolated for two weeks. He returned to school only to feel unwell and had it confirmed a couple of days later.
In a week or so no one will bat an eyelid as it'll be a very common event I suppose.

There are many claimed.
It may take an authoritarian regime without constraints to get Tests through at the earliest.

The trouble is, they have to work and safely. Although there are plenty of subjects around to volunteer.

Interesting contrasts starting to present.
Italy South Korea virtually identical numbers atm .
Mortality 6 times higher in Italy .
Likewise France and Germany.
0 deaths in Germany 19 in France.

There's a sports minister meeting today to discuss playing games behind closed doors.

I really don't know the outcome but wouldn't be suprised if crowds are prevented from attending the rest of March's games.

It's true what's been said though on this thread, if fans won't gather in a stadium they'll gather in a pub or any other social setting.

If they are serious about it then they should follow what Italy are doing. However 3 deaths in nealrly 300 cases with all those that have died having poor immunity isn't what I class as alarming.

My biggest concern is how the old or physically vulnerable are seen as disposable. It’s ok cos only some old or sick people will die. Maybe they weren’t ready to die. Surely anything that hastens death against peoples will should be taken seriously. What next? Rare form of cancer, meh leave them do it it’s only one in a thousand

It’s not that all of those people are at risk of the flu which would cause them very similar issues. So we should absolutely encourage good personal hygiene with hands and face and be sensible and reasonable with everything else

To be fair the government/health officials have balanced risk/panic reasonably well so far with regard to events etc.

I’d imagine there will be some guidance that people above a certain age or with prior existing conditions shouldn’t be going, which is sensible as people’s health is more important than attending.

ps the coughing without covering mouths, and those still still not washing hands etc are probably the same selfish fuckers who are buying up 200 bogrolls at a time, just incase ! If everyone maintains good personal hygiene we’ve got a chance of limiting the spread, which in turn will save lives, it’s not rocket science.

Bargain pricing, I've been having a serious look at getting more of Lloyds today, if you buy at current pricing, going off the previous years it'll be paying out over a 5% dividend.

Some great value to be had.

Maybe they used some of the money to short the markets and (who knows) maybe made money from the falling markets.

surely this is the best time to get it, too. Get infected, get looked after, recover, collect £3500. All before it kicks off properly.

That life is cheap.
Might be afraid that the Hoi polloi might catch on that the efforts of their labour is worth more than they get .
Ffs didn't want to dissembark that cruise cos he was worried about his stats.
