One metre or two? The tricky science behind social distancing | WIRED UK

you won't read it but the basics are no one really knows what is the best distance is as they haven't done enough research so it's economics or peoples lives.

Nah because if you had it your way, we’d be in lockdown for years until the vaccine was tested for and made to be safe and not sped up

Surely every vaccine should be safe before being used. Would you prefer one that is not known to be safe?

Errrrr it’s common sense to think that 1m instead of 2 will have less of an impact on people’s lives and they economy, are you stupid?

Australia have no social distancing in their schools at all. But then they’ve only had 102 deaths in this entire outbreak.

If he hadn't absolutely fucked the initial response we would likely be almost fully reopen by now.

It's also common sense that something that is transmitted in liquid droplets will have more chance of travelling 1m instead of 2.
You are stupid.

Me stupid? You've just shown your inability to read basic English.

As you have the reading comprehension of a primary school child let me break this down into crayon for you:

No one knows what the safe distance for this novel coronavirus as no gold standard trials have taken place.

You understand what that means?

So you have to decide on if you are going to prioritise the economy or the safety of people and potentially save lives

Got that Dom?

Exactly this. Look at the countries that took it serious in the first place and took advantage of the advanced notice we were getting from the initial hot spots.

Yes and many countries (ie just about every country) haven't had it as bad as us, nor do they continue to have it as bad as we are currently.

Yes but that is not the same as saying you can't reopen the economy safely.

I apologise, I didn't realise you had learning disabilities.

For everyone else who isn't a moron.

Countries have adopted distances over 1m as the only real research we have into droplet spread is based on influenza and the research for that shows a higher risk of infection at 1.8m or less.

That is why we need to accept the reality and not think that we can wish this all away by opening things up. Opening things up in reality is pointless if enough of the population doesn’t have the confidence to use those facilities and that confidence has to come from a measured response to every aspect of this from the government and they’ve fucked it up at every level, failed to take control of the disease and no body trusts them. What’s the point in the pubs opening if every night is like a quite wet Tuesday night when there’s something worth watching on the telly? These businesses need to be sustainable when they open up again and that is only going to happen when there’s public confidence to return to them and that’s only going to happen when the government get everything else right. If you think ending lockdown is going to be some sort of golden ticket for the economy you’re setting yourself up for a fall again.
