whys everyone so obsessed with a 'second wave?'

Anyone that points out that its not nailed on is given dogs abuse. Eg myself.

Spanish flu was an influenza. Not a coronavirus. The science shows this was in Europe transmitting in December. The 8× higher 'flu' and 4x higher 'pneumonia' rates here from December and Jan also show that.

We've had fucking thousands of people alltogether, and no second spike has taken place. Add onto that the amount of people who frankly dont care anymore that have more than 6 people round or go to someones house etc. And whats happened? Its still dropping.

Ve day. People swarming over beaches. The first lot of BLM protests 3 weeks ago.

Always 'well this is the second wave' but it doesnt happen.

If you want to believe its nailed on sound.

If you dont, like me, then sound.

No need for everyone to shit themselves and name call is there?

Beijing stopped flights and shut schools this week after a new outbreak.

A town in Germany have shut schools after hundreds of factory workers in the town tested positive.

I think this is the new normal for a while yet and people need to get used to it.

Any chance that the change of the alert level is due solely to a sluggish public response to shops reopening?

Are we talking about a second spike in the first wave at this point rather than a second wave?

All of those grouping we’ve had have been outside in generally good weather - outside the virus has a reduced transmission rate.

The test will be when we start to have en-masse gatherings that are inside (schools with little or no social distancing as an example) - isn’t this something that is happening elsewhere in some of the examples mentioned in the last few posts?
Also we have to think about what the impact will be when we get to the poorer and colder weather at the end of the year.

It’s not like we even have an effective tracking/testing/tracing programme that could be used to mitigate and control where these hotspots occur.

No one wants to be right - but better to be clear in the fact that’s it’s nowhere near to be a manageable situation yet.

8 x higher and 4 x higher than what? Once again I spent a significant amount of time at a specialist respiratory unit in mid to late January. The critical care nurses there said there had been no flu rush this year.

As for a second wave, the reality is that the first one hasn't subsided to anywhere near the same extent as other countries, and its decline has been very very slow - so, there is no second wave just a continuation of relatively high infection rates. It's still a 4 figure number whereas other places got down to 3 figures weeks and weeks ago. In any case, nobody said when a second wave would happen, it is probably going to come later, and with the residual infection rate so high is more likely here than other places.

This is fact. You seem to believe that somehow the virus has already mutuated and is less infectious, which is of course utter bollocks.

As for citing events like the BLM protests and other outdoor gatherings, they are nowhere near as likely to spread infection as events within confined spaces so don't prove anything.

Britain's Covid threat level should be reduced from four to three | Daily Mail Online

For all the scaremongers on here, SAGE confirming the virus is going away and therefore we need to cut the 2m rule ASAP to save the economy

Things are getting better!

When you're reading these articles look for which parts are actually quotes from scientists and which parts are either the journalist or the government. I can't see anything in that article that would indicate SAGE are recommending changing the 2 metre rule.

Interesting that once again someone the government has claimed they are working with knows nothing about it, this time Apple: 'We don't know what they mean by this hybrid model. They haven't spoken to us about it.'

What an absolute shitrag of a paper.

"But it will heap pressure on the PM to relax the draconian social distancing curbs strangling the economy."

Firstly, our lockdown has never been draconian, and certainly isn't now.
Secondly, there is a reason for social distancing, it's not just for shits and giggles.

There's nothing of the sort in there, it doesn't even say SAGE agreed to reduce the level.

WHO recommends 1M, why are you lot so for having the 2M rule, it will kill the economy if it’s that much any longer....do you not think about how many people will lose their jobs and livelihoods?

Hancock says the ‘infection rate is RAPIDLY declining’ - I’ll assume he doesn’t actually understand what that word means.

Where have I said that? If you want to be taken seriously stop making things up.

Just this morning we spoke about who it was a case of waiting a few extra months. You've either got the memory of a gold fish or are a glib and shameless liar.

tbh I'm reasonably comfortable that it was agreed by all four of the chief medical advisors. That's the kind of evidence I'm happy to accept. It's more what they choose to do off the back of it that I'll be watching.

It has declined significantly from the highs of April no doubt... but it has been stuck between 1000 - 2000 for quite a while. Has it even been below 1000 yet on a single day? (Bearing in mind these are only CONFIRMED cases)
