I’m the most optimistic people you’d meet but being in multiple lockdowns just wouldn’t work, imagine how crippled the country will be financially for instance....it’s already bad

My worry is we’ve done neither one thing nor the other, we haven’t tried to squash the virus like some countries have managed to do and we haven’t properly adapted to life with it by thinking properly about how we can have a working economy and slow the spread.

Of course it’s possible. It’s not favourable but it’s certainly possible.

If a scientific approach is there, it's there for a reason. We do, actually, have a world leading reputation in this kind of thing, and it's partly because our processes are defined and we don't rush things forward, we wait until we're sure.

But no, knock yourself out just because you want a pint.

We can’t sit around for years or else the government would get slaughtered for that too
We won’t sit around for years, we’ll be going in and out of lockdowns. If the government can stop fucking around and get track and trace sorted them lockdowns only need to be localised instead of national. All the government has to do is reverse the multiple failings they’ve made so far and with personal common sense as a country can manage this virus as well as any other country has. If the government keeps getting it wrong on every aspect as they have so far we’re fucked and the government will have earned the criticism to go with the criticism that they’ve already earned.

The levels are absolute bollocks.

The R number has been below 1 for how long so why have we been at 4 for so long?

Why are the things in Levels 2 and 1 already happening if we are only just moving to 3, nevermind 2 or 1?

Absolute bollocks. Making it up as they go along.

We haven't gone from anything to anything. We are miles behind other places. They have just told you that one made up number has changed to another made up number because they want people like you to go mental spending money. Lethal virus still not being controlled but someone tells you "its ok, we've decided to call today '3' instead of '4' so go back to normal" and you lap it up- amazing.

Your call, however you're pretty dumb by blindly accepting everything the most dishonest govt of all time tell you.

Yes it is a problem though! So fine the testing all works and it’s approved! Then we’ll have to wait weeks/months for it to be scaled up and available to use.....thankfully the government are making it so that once it hopefully gets approved it will be straight away given to those that most need it

It’s crazy what you are suggesting, basically that if one works we’ll then have to wait months for it to be scaled up to give the public

But you're working on the assumption it WILL work. Why don't we just mass produce every drug on the planet in case one of them proves effective? What if they'd mass produced hydroxychloroquine so it was ready for everybody after the trials only to find that it's totally ineffective? At least that could've actually them been used by donating it to Africa as part of the aid budget to fight malaria.

Because the whole point of the testing is to ensure safety and effectiveness. Why would you cut corners on the most important parts of the process in ensuring you've got a good treatment.

It's like saying I don't understand why throwing water on a chip pan fire to put it out could be bad in any way.

So the Covid alert level has been reduced from 4 to 3.

Does this mean we expect to see further relaxation of social distancing measures?

But we can potentially have a huge amounts of deaths from an unsafe 'cure' that was given out because testing had been rushed? Still, worth it if the pubs can open eh?

I think they've already done the ones that were supposed to happen when we went from 4 to 3. Plus a few extra. You know, 'guided by the science'.

But that just shows that the way we choose to live isn't robust enough and needs to change to be more flexible.

It isn't those animals which are the strongest or cleverest that survive and thrive, it's those most adaptable to change. This is showing we're not adaptable to change so we need to seriously rethink how we go about things. First place to look is the obsession with the economy and how it operates. Make that more flexible and our ability to survive lockdowns and future problems improves massively.

Probably, although half the things we have relaxed already weren't supposed to have been done until levels 2 or 1.

Presumably this means Boris will do the briefing tonight, as this reducing of the level is good news and we know Boris only does good news these days.

Who knows with this Government. Level 3 is the level were they say we can start to see gradual loosening of the restrictions but restrictions are loosened already.

If they came out and said they were adjusting the guidance and actions at each level due to further information and scientific evidence you could kind of understand it as it’s an ever changing scenario - but it’s just more on the hoof thinking.

Just be clear and upfront - it’s not difficult.

Not really though. Survival of the fittest etc. The weak die off. Maybe that's been the plan all along.

On an objective level that's exactly what nature wants to do. We're overpopulated, so it's trying to compensate,

The government easing it's arbitrary and frankly made up threat level does not make a second wave imaginary or less likely.

Short term and on an individual basis yes. Long term and on a wider scale it's about adaptability. Loads of species are declining not because they're not weeding out the weak but because they can't adapt to the changing environment around them.
