I know its a rapidly changing situation but is it a good idea to keep announcing things without having the correct information available?

Not always, but I'd say that this is. It will put a lot of peoples minds at ease, for now anyway.

You're right but I would also see it as an opportunity. We could help launch events and do advertising etc. Even interview artists.

My mate seems to have fully lost interest though, so looks like we have to forget it.

It causes issues and this is of their own making.

It was not a real policy announcement it was the answer to an urgent question posed by labour due to number 10 briefing the press that the furlough scheme would be tapered.

It's a shambles

Only because they will just see the headline.

Employers will see the details and now be worried as t looks like they are being asked to pay part of the 80 percent.

This could lead to redundancy.

If number 10 hadn't of started briefing on the furlough scheme over the weekend they could of waited until they have all the details before announcing

Yes you're right- however there are some brilliant 'zoom festivals' at the moment, there was one from Friday noon until 9am Saturday- obviously not the same but it was brilliant, just seeing loads of people dancing away in their living rooms, dressed up, having fun was a huge boost to the spirits. Was a great line-up too, and there's going to be another one soon. It was the best night I ever had without actually going out

Why would you need him? Its not expensive to set up a website, I know loads of people who do similar things and I'm telling you- there is a gap right now- especially now with online festivals popping up all over the place via zoom etc.. there is nowhere collating them though, you just join groups and get alerts, its hit and miss. There is one tonight at 7pm with Gaudi, loads of people will be online for it and everyone wants to talk at the moment! Honestly- there is room for this.

Yep- twitch is great too, much better sound quality than zoom. Its weird, I've ended up going to more 'gigs' now than I did before as they're all online. It will change everything, its a brilliant way to socialise during lockdown.

Must admit reading through this without G’s nonsense is more enjoyable. He is the most ignored user on here by some distance I would imagine and regardless of how he spins it his ego doesn’t like that.

The best (for me anyway) is zoom streamed to the TV to see & twitch on the phone to speakers to listen- that way you get the atmosphere of it & decent sound. It sounds naff and its obviously not quite the same, but its really good & perfect for now- made me feel great just seeing everyone else having a great time wherever in the world they were

Sorry, don’t understand what you’re getting at here? What would abusing furlough have to do with shock doctrine politics?

Not directly about employers abusing furlough...well not in that way initially anyhow...
Its just stuff like, for example, Hancock this morning swerving questions on whether folk could legally refuse to return to work & suggesting that whilst employment law hasn't changed, (yet!) that in these extraordinary times, the employees & employers should maybe collaborate & compromise....
...Add in the tapering of the fulrough payments with a request to employers to take up the slack in the summer etc.
...It just seems to me to be sowing some seeds for a new normal where employees may end up being forced into choices of working for 80% of their old wage, or remaining on fulough for 60% of their old wage, or being made redundant...
Just one example of many, such as the massive potential abuse of track and trace....check out South Koreas requirements to go clubbing for example, or the European democracies demanding to see your travel papers & ID for walking down the street....

Dangerous times....and I don't mean the virus

It's hard to argue with any of that.

I've messaged my mate today and have said I'll run with it if he doesn't want to.

Will see what the outcome is.

Brilliant- you'll do really well. I can fire you some links to these online concerts if you like at some point- just say the word. There's a whole new movement out there for dance/ electronic/ ambient/ everything gigs & things via social media

It ran from about 2015 until last year. Did it with my friend from Germany (I can hear Brighton Skyblue laughing in the background).

We eneded up doing some events and festivals and started making a bit of money, although not a lot. The guy I did it with then started a different business and now that one doesn't do anything.

Sad really, I still think it has potential.

I wouldn't. Possible leadership contender. They fucked this right up and it's quite possible they'll go with a leadership change again to 'wipe the slate clean'. So for that they need to keep someone as clear as possible of it so they don't get too associated. I think that person could be Sunak, although it may be Hunt.

Yeah De Pfeffel isn’t going to last and think you’re right about Sunak as opposed to someone like Gove who is a PR nightmare

Oh god imagine the crowing about having the first BAME PM. Considering annoying lefties is their most consistent political belief these days I think they’ll go Sunak for that reason alone.

To be honest I’d take it. Not a fan of changing PMs without an election and it’s be the third time in a row the public have elected a PM only to get a different one months later, but we really do need someone better than Johnson at the helm going forwards. The recovery from this and Brexit will consume the entire life of this parliament I’d expect. Makes sense to have an economist running the show during a Parliament all about economic recovery.

His philosophy is a little unnerving however. His disposition is not towards the state, even for a Conservative.
