Socialist solutions for the capitalists when the capitalists are doing badly. And not just that; socialism would imply an equal distribution - whereas furlough means that those in highly paid jobs get paid more for doing the same job (i.e. nothing).

Yes you're right, but Self Employed though, not sure how that fits into the analogy- lots of smaller self employed have been obliterated by the lack of support, and they are creators of capital for others.

I'd try the foreign office website, or search the name of the country and travel restrictions.

As for Spain, they are quarantining all new arrivals for 14 days but that's only due to currently last another 12 days so you should be alright in 5 weeks.

To be honest, you sound desperate for a break and I'm the same but you're probably better holding on until things improve globally, I think international travel will be a massive ball ache at the minute.

Yeah, that's exactly right. As you said that is currently in place until May 25th in Spain.

The other European countries seem a bit difficult to obtain information so I'm hoping things will get announced soon.

I know it's not a priority in the grand scheme of things but the thought of being stuck here for much longer is sending me mad!

Sorry, don’t understand what you’re getting at here? What would abusing furlough have to do with shock doctrine politics?

There is lots of various support available for people and millions will be glad they will be getting 80% of their income till October, hopefully by then everyone will be back at work i think by September this will be well under control

No there isn't any other support.

They earn too much for uc but not enough to survive.

Come in Dumoprick how do you help these people? It's simple you just don't pay anyone less than minimum wage.

Let's talk about the scheme rather than pulling dates out of your arse that are not based on evidence

If I were you and was desperate to get away I'd try and get hold of a camper or a transit that you can make habitable and head up to the highlands for a bit.

I think I'll stick to the UK for now though even in times of crisis and uncertainty their prices are still an absolute piss take.

Good luck with that with the size of a Nursery budget. Forgetting the logistical nightmare, the cleaning / PPE bill will bankrupt any Nursery within weeks.

Clearly the government would have to mandate and pay for this. I don’t expect it to happen as they seem intent on leaving things to be up to the individual and business to sort out.

That is not what I said is it Dom.

Why are you lying about what I said?

I have said we should talk about the flaws in the scheme that should of been fixed by now but haven't. The flaws that mean real people go without.

But you just choose to lie about what I said.

You are both weird and in the words of the primitive really really stupid.

Yes that's the problem - the tab is being picked up by those who are still working (key workers, and now people in professions such as manufacturing and production who are being encouraged to go back to work) or those who can create capital during times of crises. And so now we have a situation where people who are working are not only risking their lives but are simultaneously responsible for the health of the UK but also for contributing to the government's coffers.

Also regarding the part time scheme. Labour was asking for this in match but were told it would be far too complicated.

Dom can you try to answer this one without just pulling a date out of thin air.

Why can't the cut off date be extended to the start of april.from the end of match.

Lots of people have fell through the cracks because they were going to change jobs.

That's not an answer. You can actually think about things rather than just being a nodding dog.

The scheme is massively flawed and while it is welcome they have backtracked on tapering the payments they have missed a massive chance to fix the glaring flaws.

What are your thoughts on the public opinion that Johnson has handled this appallingly, and has a lower rating than Starmer?

Just saw a stat if you add furloughed and public sector workers together you’ve now got 49% of all employees being paid by the state!

Good to see they've u-turned on the drop to 60% The pressure to end furlough should be made on employers who can afford to do so and are using the scheme as a means of saving themselves money rather than the workers who have been told to stay at home who will be worried if they will even have a job to go back to.
shmmeee said:
Really good announcement if I’m reading it correctly. Still 80% of wages paid and no longer requiring staff to not be working? Is that right? My only question is if people are working, wouldn’t they be getting full pay? Little confused.
That doesn't seem right. Would leave the scheme massively open to abuse. Surely if someone is working their employer pays them not the government?

Interesting watching posters who shouted about how awful socialism was during the election now praising the government for the furlough scheme.
