But it is what many seem is the best to do.jesus- things, stuff, possessions, self absorption, me, mine, accumulating, consuming, working harder to buy more, take on more debt to buy more, taking lots of selfies on the way, then dying without really having done much apart from ‘perpetuating the cycle’. I don’t claim to have any answers for anyone (apart from maybe emigrate) but that sounds like a shit life to be aiming for.
I'm not a part of that generation. My kids certainly are not.The economic consequences of this are very well publicised but fortunate boomers on here and elsewhere don't quite get it. Renting is a habit for the vast majority and there is no longer such thing as a job for life or at the current rate of change permanent jobs themselves are an oddity. Luckily it seems like Generation Z are of similar mindset

I agree- one of the things I try to teach my kids is that you do not need to live the life you’re told to in order to be content and secure, and work like an idiot just to conform. I have high hopes for the next generations, from what I can tell they ridicule some of the older lot even more than we did when we were their age.

He's not questioning the people who work for the nhs ffs. Selected immigration is a good thing for this country ie getting the best foreign doctors and nurses to come and work here. He's on about the rest that we dont need putting unnecessary pressure on the nhs/schools/housing etc. But you know this already dont you. I did it when I left school when I was 16. My citb course didn't start until the September and I was desperate to earn some cash. It was on some farm over balsall common. I pleaded with them on the phone to take me on but they didn't want to as I wasn't 18. I said I didn't want to be paid as much as an adult then they agreed. Absolutely back breaking work. Long hours as well. I remember eating my sandwiches next to the potato harvester with muddy fingers. Glad I did it though. A lot of the kids these days wouldn't even entertain such a job.Certainly not easy work. Another job that should have higher pay.
I remember doing it instead of going to school. It was when I saw a 20p piece for the first time. Not as easy as it sounds.
Like I said earlier some people should be forced ie the ones who take the piss with benefits. Problem is though the likes of tony will moan about their rights whilst at the same time moaning about having to import foreign workers.Crazy that we can’t get UK workers to do this though. Ultimately I’d imagine pay will have to increase to attract more people to manual agri jobs (may lead to increases in prices but so be it, it’s what should be happening)

It’s a free country, people are free to choose their employment and personally working the land would be far from my first choice not because I’m lazy but simply because I have better options in terms of pay and conditions. You do understand the difference between applied, offered and accepted? You’re original post could be taken as 25000 applied but only 250 were offered a job. That almost certainly won’t be the case and by the way the NFU are still optimistic that British workers will take the jobs. Working on a farm is one of the jobs that you’re allowed to take to top up your wages while furloughed so it’s possible, however if you live in the centre of London you probably won’t be looking to take a job in Norfolk pulling up carrots for £400 a week.
