Gone above China in the recorded cases today, is there anyone out there who actually believes that to be true?

Are the Chinese figures true? In my opinion absolutely not.

well look- I’m gonna be honest, I don’t really feel any joy in outing that particular piece of bullshit when the whole world is in a bloody mess- he’s got his views & told a porky but we’ve all done it, and that’s it. Time to move on, I was planning on no aggro today

I’m sure what grendel meant was that many people have been placed on furlough- that’s correct. But you can’t claim yet and the risk is that you may have lots of people furloughed then not be accepted, as we are seeing with the loans. And it will be thoroughly audited. Just a mistake and I’m actually boring myself even talking about it, so time for something else- where’s Coventrian when you need him

I’ve avoided the thread today (trying to go cold turkey !). Agree that the number of acceptances on the government backed loan scheme is poor/unacceptable (I honestly believe this is more an issue with the banks - I’m saying this from discussions and a little direct experience). I do however think there should’ve been a streamlined application process for loans just to cover payroll/salaries for businesses whilst the furlough scheme got up and running. One thing I’ll give the banks is that the sheer volume of applications, when most have reduced teams in recent years, together with them/business owners working at home (difficult to gather and submit all required info) will be causing a lot of delays. I think the British Business Bank have been trying to tweak and amend the scheme ‘live’ and lets hope a signifiant number of applications will be accepted in coming days/weeks as the current situations not reflecting well on anyone at the moment

In terms of the furlough scheme if they can get this up and running by the end of this month (as currently anticipated) then fair play. I cant see the government/Hmrc being overly aggressive with a majority of applications as you’ll end up with loads of insolvencies when the very reason why the scheme was set was to avoid this.

time will tell I guess

Big challenge for him early in his tenure.
Seems the warring factions that caused Corbyn so much grief aren't going away.

He's got a job on his hands with this. Watch this space. Either way, music to Tory ears.

As you finally agreed he didn't have a say to what happened. He didn't have a say to the ending. But he says he will chase it all up.

What more can he do? What chance has Labour got when Labour voters are having a go at their new leader before he even does or says anything wrong?

Is it because he doesn't lean to the left enough?

The last time Labour had a left leaning government was in the 70's. What we need is more left than Bliar.

Great news. Not only are the deaths well down but hospital cases are also on their way down. This will give more scope to get on top of the situation.

You can't say he's had a productive 4 days and then say he wasn't responsible for something that happened yesterday.

I would also say that if any of this leads back to him he's dead in the water.

For now he should be going in hard on the government. Lots of easy targets. Get fucking stuck in

Corbyn tried the gentleman politician, civil discourse route. It didnt work. He needs to get the gloves off.

I tell you what he can do. He can read that leaked report and every person that actively tried to undermine the leadership should be expelled from the party - no exception.

News that was released yesterday.

He has been in contact with them. Wants it all to be up and running on 21st April. Wants answers. Wants to know what the long term Tory plans are on getting us back to normal.

We need to give him a chance. If he fails then have a go. But he has a bloody hard job ahead. He has taken over a party that has just had one of their worse GE results ever. Party infighting. Constant racism rows. A lack of direction isn't the worse thing he has to change.

The report wasn't released yesterday. He'll know exactly what's in it.
And he's tip toeing around the government. He needs to be putting the boot in. Learn by Corbyns mistakes.
And if there is some blow back from this report if he's gone in hard on the Tories people might just give him some leeway

Getting smoke blown up his arse by certain elements within the Jewish community who would do the same to anyone that wasn't Corbyn doesn't impress me.
And I'm not saying the report reveals any dirt on him (Ian is fairly sure it doesnt).

I am giving him a chance, but I'm saying what I think he needs to do, certainly to win me around.

You can't say you were right all along about Corbyn being ineffectual and then be happy with Starmers powder puff start..

You certainly do have a problem with him.

Go in hard when they reconvene. Don't give away points so answers can be prepared.

Is your problem with him that he didn't see Corbyn as the person to lead Labour? As I expect you remember I have wanted Starmer in for a few years. Hopefully he will be another John Smith and make us electable again.

Who would you have preferred to Starmer to lead Labour?

There was no one but Starmer which is a sad indictment not just on Labour but British politics in general.

As I said in another post, Corbyn tried the civil discourse route, it flopped.
Time for gloves off. He'll win doubters round more with that approach.

Well thats fair enough, however what I can and am telling you is that HMRC will be using "every tool in their arsenal" to audit and check somewhere down the line. And those boys have some pretty serious tools in their box, speaking from bitter experience they use GCHQ to get hold of any emails they like and you'd never know it was happening (that was a much more serious issue than furlough tbf, but you don't fuck with HMRC!)
