Is that real?

And how are those 10,000 we ordered from Dyson getting on?

LOTR very on brand for Johnson, surprised he’s doing foreign muck like Sudoku though, should be doing good British crosswords.

If that’s a straight quote and isn’t twisted then Matt Hancock needs to be sacked on the spot, at minimum. Don’t like the word but I feel it’s deserved here- he’s a dangerous incompetent c*nt.

Apparently. They also offered to donate Hugh Quarshie to deputise for Matt Hancock but he was apparently overqualified. The second bit isn’t true, although Hugh Quarshie probably is better qualified than Matt Hancock.

Bloody hell. Just unreal.

I await something about Italy or France from the usual crowd, but that's just appalling.

I would think it’s important to clarify whether he actually said that, it seems too stupid and bloodthirsty even for him

Can anyone explain what happened with SARS? I remember it, but it barely touched these shores did it.

That was a Coronavirus, so what happened there and how long was it before they managed to get a vaccine?

There were a lot fewer deaths too.

What was different?

Because he's out of his depth and people out of their depth don't do well under live questioning.

You can get away with lies or mistakes when talking about Brexit or elections, but when people are dying lies and mistakes suddenly look even worse.

He is a Tory mouthpiece.

Of course the strategy is working, locking down and social distancing was always going to reduce the spread - even the most ardent Tory supporter would admit that.

The question is not whether it's working, the question is whether it was done soon enough.

I believe warm weather killed that off to a large extent. That's just from memory from something I read. Could be completely wrong.

Ross Kemp seems to be of the belief that filming people dying for our amusement is just what’s required at this stage

Assuming we have the raw materials readily available to do so.

But if there was any doubt before this on not to trust the Americans in a trade agreement it must surely have disappeared now.

Seized a load of ventilators destined for export that had been ordered and paid for but when India refused to export the malaria drug they were met with threats from the US until they caved. I expect similar to happen with Pakistan now they've banned export of it.

I totally agree politics aside we need a fairer society and now this has happened around the world maybe we will get it.
Been out walking these past Few weeks and the amount of people you pass and say hello is fantastic.
Me and the Mrs even got chatting to a guy yesterday that was a vicar( dressed in civies) and he said a prayer for us.
Very uplifting experience!!

At a social level I'm hopeful it will.

But at other levels it won't lead to a fairer society at all. If anything it'll make them worse. They'll feel vulnerable and hoard even more to protect themselves where possible.

JRM's investment company is playing up the opportunities to make large amounts of money from this due to the massive volatility.

I need more beer. So to sum up, seems like the situation is currently:

1. Boris and the government fucked up so badly that 10,000 people and rising died, with the U.K. on course to be worst hit in Europe. Boris almost died himself due to his own carelessness and stupidity.

2. Boris is now a hero for surviving, whereas the 10,000 dead are barely mentioned in the media.

4. China are the great evil who lie about death figures and don’t care about their own people... we deliberately withhold how many healthcare workers have died, that’s ok.

5. it’s nurses’ own fault for overusing PPE

Boozy Easter coming up

you can already see it- it’s just making the right more right and the left more left- the divisions in this country will take a generation to fix.

I think it was as simple as it wasn’t as contagious and had a lower mortality rate if you did catch it.

That's correct, but you do tend to find sourcing the raw materials a hell of a lot easier then a finished product.

I don't want to be drawn into a debate about trade deals and such like, simple fact is the yanks can do what they want, too strong economically and militarily.

I agree but there's no probably about it. Planning for a massive global health crisis that could kill hundreds of thousands or potentially millions of people should not be approached in the same way as building a car. It needs to be there ready to go from the off - there won't be time to produce and source it before it's too late (esp if people are getting sick and production/supply is affected further) as we're finding out.

If I can figure that out with basic logic and general knowledge you'd think those with access to experts would be able to. But they just ignore the warnings and carry on.

We don't have the argument about the nuclear deterrent by saying we'll start to enrich the uranium when the enemy presses the button. Too late.

But before we know it it'll be back to "we don't have the money, cuts must be made" etc. But hey, we stood clapping the NHS workers when we needed then so that's fine.

How could you have herd immunity policy in any country where there is no vaccine?

By letting it develop naturally in terms of antibodies in the general population as it spreads.

Only minor downside to that is it'd kill a huge number of people :emoji_thinking:
