They could have reacted much better and much more quickly . Put up clear protective screens between the drivers and passengers. Minimal contact. It's all pretty much pay with no change given anyway isn't it.

It's tragic that so many drivers have lost their lives.

I've said something similar about my wife and her job. She works at a shop.

I said to her, instead of letting customers just wander around the store, they should have set up temporary barriers and gone back to the old corner shop way of shopping, where customers come in, say what they want at a distance and the assistant goes and gets the stuff for them. I have been saying it for weeks now.

I think we could have reduced contact with people in many, many professions.

Friends of mine who work in shops are still getting climbed over as they are filling up by nob heads who won't wait a minute for people to finish what they are doing. You are right, the process needs to change because some people won't. Everybody deserves protection

There are screens in the cabs but they aren't air tight.

The best action would be to look the front doors and make people get on via the middle doors (london buses have multiple enterences/exits) and to block off the seats near the driver. This is what their unions want.

the good old days.

About 25 years ago I went to the local newsagents. They had a good customer service ethos. By then of course , shops were self-selection... But John decided he’d have his 85 year old mother in (used to own the shop). I go to the display and reach for a mars bar. She pulls a rolled up newspaper out and biffs me with it..

“Sorry Sir.”
“Mother, you can’t do that.”
“Oh,yes I can.” John ushered her away with a sheepish look on his face.

Wasn't the mayor of London pushing the narrative for weeks that you can't contract it on public transport.

Coronavirus: Health effects of a COVID-19 recession 'could be worse than the pandemic'

In a new briefing, it notes a recent debate on "whether the adverse health effects of a recession may be greater than the increased morbidity and mortality within the pandemic itself".

This is true, its worrying how the cure could turn out to be worse than the virus itself which makes the governments job so difficult

He said it after consulting public health England.
Not really a fan of his and don't think he's been pro active enough in finding solutions to the transport issues down there but that comment came after consulting with the experts.

No it wasn’t, you are going to see more positive cases due to more testing being done and the death rate doesn’t reflect the current impact of lockdowns

Johnson improving and a lockdown summit on the way which will probably see lockdown extended in this morning's news
Good news on Johnson but he needs to concentrate on recovering now.
Lockdown extension inevitable really.

We already been through this and it's a shame that people dont read passed the headline.

If you read the story he is stating that the currentvadvise from the government was it was staff to ride the tube and go concerts.

Please read the article before you post it

Cant find anything, gone back to March 17th and he was talking about only key workers using it: Mayor Sadiq Khan on London's transport, childcare, schools, hospitals and business

Got a source?

Edit: missed your post.

That was before the outbreak started. He was right. When there were 39 cases total there was no risk of catching it.

Tell me, what is it about the Muslim Sadiq Khan that upsets you so much?

You do realise the tests don’t get turned around in 5 mins don’t you? In fact save it, not being funny but you don’t seem to have any clue at all what’s going on with the figures.

Right, read that, but now I take that coment back of mine. Seems he was just relaying what he had been told by Public Health England.

Can't blame him for that.

Not poor decision making by him though is it, if that is what he was told by the official body.

Yes I suppose given the date the risk would have been very low. It's just a hindsight thing that makes it seem so crazy.

at the risk of being called insensitive... deaths going through the roof, new cases rising dramatically, more key info coming out about the virus itself from Asia, key govt figures invisible and/or clearly struggling, Italy now questioning the future of the entire EU, and we are undoubtedly heading into one of the nastiest & most critical situations we’ve been in decades- arguably since 1945.... but most of the news seems to be “Boris now able to sit up in bed”.
