Genuine question for the statto's on here

What's the increase in (excess) mortality rate like in Africa compared to Europe?

I'm not even sure I've framed the question correctly. Hopefully you know what I mean.

A lot of births and deaths in this world are never registered.....they're celebrated, acknowledged, lived, loved and mourned....but never registered.

I...I ain't no number...dont need no ID round my neck

My stag do was in Budapest. Drank a drink which I believe is quite big over there - Unicum.

Strange name, like rocketfuel. Can't remember much of my stag apart from the 3 broken ribs from drunk go-karting.

The good lady wife has tested positive on a pcr although tested negative on a ltf

I phoned work and said I have no symptoms and they’ve told me I have to self isolate for 10days anyway and do a pcr . I was going to get my booster tomorrow too . Actually if anyone needs a booster there’s a walk in at Cov library

Genuine question and apologies if it has been asked before

Is there a reason why LFTs cannot have the same level of accuracy as PCR tests? Seems to me that you're more likely to test positive on a PCR than a LFT, surely the way forward is if you test negative on a LFT then carry on, but test positive on a LFT then go for a PCR and have it officially recorded?

Stopping testing for those who have symptoms but test negative on the less accurate LFs is hardly going to help, is it?

The LFTs are aimed at those that don't have any symptoms but are less accurate, why can't they have the same level of accuracy as a PCR?

Of course if the symptoms are obvious then go straight for a PCR without a LFT

Without anything else PCRs are testing in laboratory conditions while LFTs are done at home by people that can’t tie their shoes.

They can’t have the same accuracy as they’re different tests?

Because they use a different method to test, one that can be done at home rather than in a lab.

Even the daily case numbers can’t be totally relied on for accuracy. It took two days for me to get pcr test back. A mate and his missus took their home pcr test on 21/12…got result back yesterday.

I doubt it will change the the general trend of high numbers much but it will be lumpy. Best focussing on 7 day average of cases if thats what people want to follow

Hospitalisations and deaths are far more important figures and there’s been a big jump in hospitalisations. Let’s hope it settles back down

I think people going to hospital because of covid and finding out when they enter is important too.

Exactly. I think last week they reckoned 1 in 40 or 50 had Covid in the UK so you’ve got to assume 1 in 40 or 50 admissions will have Covid anyway. That’s not taking into account how much it’s likely to then spread on wards. ICU numbers are therefore also important as these will also indicate how severe the hospitalisations are and whether people are in hospital because of covid or with it. ICUs have remained largely flat, if not slightly declining over recent days/weeks. Not an exact science but another indicator

LFT detects surface proteins on the virus, PCR detects viral DNA. Therefore the first type will likely only give a positive result when you have a higher viral load.

PCR will detect before, during, and after the most infectious stages as it works by amplifying up from even low levels of virus.

Despite not being there for cultural purposes, I could tell it was a beautiful city.

Didn't have health insurance. Picked up a cough on the way back home from the stag. A cough with broken ribs was genuinely the worst thing I've ever experienced. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

If I ever go back, which I'd love to do, I'll try some Palinka.
