Does anyone know somebody who’s actually been fined in the last 2 days for not wearing a mask?

Don’t think fines are actually coming in to tomorrow. I think unofficially we’re having 2 days of advise, educate and warn.

Yeah, also had booster yesterday. Given me a dead arm and feeling pretty tired/lethargic....far better than when I had Covid though ! Hopefully won’t get any worse and will clear over next 24 hours or so

I like the sound of this. Let’s hope it’s reflected as more data comes through...

No I haven't even got one yet, keep forgetting. Went in a shop yesterday and nobody had one on. Staff or customers.

Can't really see it being policed.

Imagine a booster for every different version of COVID.

Isn't that essentially what we do with flu? The modellers predict which will be the dominant variant each winter and you get a jab for that one. Think there was one year they got it wrong which led to a greatly increased number of deaths.

Why even bring the masks ruling back again over a variant that’s ‘affected’ literally a few people & these same people are just isolating at home like they would for a normal cold? They’ve not been hospitalised & nobody literally around the world has died from it
Absolute ridiculousness

Because they aren't worried about what has happened so far, they're worried about what could happen.

Heard a report on long covid in children on the news today. 69k affected and16k being suffering for over a year. Some pretty horrendous symptoms in the worse cases. Very sobering.

Because its easier to act now while the experts are still gathering and analysing data that to just ignore it and hope for the best and find in two or three weeks time we're back to square one.

There's obviously something in the currently available data that's concerning experts as the response to this variant in countries around the world is very different to what we've seen when other variants have emerged.

Government advice has been to wear masks in crowded indoor spaces anyway, so nothing much should change really... anyway.

In real-world though, a lot will change if it's actually enforced.

Go round Tesco and see how many know the latest Government Advice.

Which is what's stupid about government advising and abdicating responsibility.

Was talking to someone earlier in the week who’s involved in the treatment of long Covid and he said 12 months ago it was pretty much all older people, the effectiveness of the vaccine means it’s now pretty much younger people including children.

Mentioned it before on here that I have a mate who’s fit and healthy 26 year old son is fucked from it. Was lucky not to die, has lost an estimated 50% of his lung capacity, diagnosed as unlikely to ever get it fully back, a common cold could be enough to kill him as things stand, is likely to have respiratory problems for the remainder of his life etc etc. Long Covid treatments are helping and he is seeing signs of recovery but ultimately he’s going to need a lung transplant at some point.

Yeah. 3 days in from first symptoms and a positive test started coughing up blood, rushed straight in and was on ICU within hours of arriving.

Yes because nobody is making money out of it all...

Naive to think nobody makes money from that when every MPs mate started a PPE company.

Thats not me saying it is all a hoax.

I am not sure what he's got really is long covid more just the after effects of a very serious lung damage. That said, it's still important as people think "not dying" is the only outcome whereas what this lad is going through is life-changing.

When my sister was ill the consultant had suggested she'd have a very difficult life if she'd survived due to the damage caused to her lungs.

Yeah you’re probably right. The issue is scaring on his lung tissue caused by infection. So although a long term issue caused by Covid isn’t exactly long Covid per se.

Going back to the guy I was talking to who’s involved in the treatment of long Covid I was telling him about a friend of the wives who did get long Covid. 6 months down the road and she was just starting to feel normal again and got a cold. She thought she had Covid again she was so ill but LFT’s and a PCR test all negative. He was telling me that this is quite a common story with people who have long Covid.

Heard an interview with the Scottish chief medical officer. He said the measures should only be in place until they have enough data (which they currently dont) to accurately assess the new variant and he seemed fairly hopeful everything would be fine.

Hae did say that making desicions based off sample data that was too small was asking for trouble so hopefully it's just a case of data gathering and then getting back to normal.

Well apparently they're not completely useless:

Mask-wearing linked to 53% cut in Covid incidence, global study finds

Researchers said results highlight the need to continue with face coverings, social distancing and handwashing alongside vaccine programmes
