I haven't found or read anything that suggests the WHO have confirmed it. All the reports of no new cases are coming directly out of China which is why I'm not believing a word of it until an independent source such as the WHO confirms it themselves.

To what extent are the draconian measures being enforced though? Just under 100 million migrant workers have still been working through the lockdown in order to keep their manufacturing arm functioning at some sort of capacity - and realistically many of their factories won't be a leading example of implementing health and safety - so I just can't see how they aren't reporting anymore cases as that's a huge number of people working together in close quarters.

China’s aggressive measures have slowed the coronavirus. They may not work in other countries

to be fair, it's a joint WHO/Chinese government study is perhaps your scepticism is well placed.

No, there was no way anyone could have foreseen the prospect of a global pandemic.

Frankly I’d rather he did. Sunak is at least a serious politician.

This month, Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of Donald Trump’s taskforce, said a vaccine was 12 to 18 months away – an expectation echoed by the UK chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance – but Hill said the Oxford team and others were “aiming for much earlier”.

Seriously why do you think Labour have just suffered the worst election result in over 60 years and dont have a cat in hells chance of running this country for many years to come.

Agreed. A bit wet behind the ears, and he's been catapulted right to the top very quickly, but yes he is serious and speaks with calmness, composure and substance.

I think he will be the next PM.

You've just limited the competency to be a PM to purely cosmetic delivery. I have seen nothing from him to suggest he's anything like a PM, he just sounds like another droid from the financial sector.

I haven't seen one single person from any party that you look at and think "yeah I could see him/her in the top job".

Its not about politicians nowadays anyway, its who would be the best mouthpiece for the forces at work behind the scenes.

They've obviously seen something in him to promote him that quickly.

A couple of years as Chancellor and he'll be ready for it I'd say. Of course he has the benefit of standing next to Johnson, who makes anyone around him look competent and confident.

true, no new domestic cases reported Wednesday, though that's the official line.
But my point is, if things are worse there than reported how bad are they going to be here when we seem to be quite flippant about it.

Got to be honest, I didn't really look too much into the detail of this when it first broke but have started to over the last few days and I'm convinced draconian social distancing is the best way forward and think that is what we should be doing. As much as a ball ache as that will be for everyone.

I assumed the assumption was Boris will get defenestrated and him installed.

There’s no actual weighty politicians on either side since we all decided politics was an I’m A Celeb spin-off.

No, he's proving to be an awful chancellor who does seem to understand macro economics.

He was promoted as he was happy to accept Dominic Cummings picking his staff

This is such an ignorant attitude and exactly the reason why more stringent measures should be put in place. You are risking other people's lives.

I really don't think some people understand the severity of this situation.

As we’re in late stage capitalism anyway I’d like to see a billionaire put some mad reward up for whoever can get a working vaccine to market quickest.

I am no fan of Corbyn or Abbott at all, but it is no use blaming them now. And the whole 'Corbyn is a terrorist and Abbott is thick' stuff is tedious bullshit that's spread like wildfire amongst the gammon on Facebook.

...and I am not one to call racism on any legitimate criticism of a black person, but the treatment of Abbott is 90% down to her being black. That's the public and the media.
