Got quite a lot riding on them not substantially delaying full reopening to be fair.

Partly due to right wing groups and other racist t***s deliberately spreading fear about what is in the vaccine to make some ethnic groups worry and not take it. Disgusting.

Lots of good news in here

Covid-19: 'Very few' Covid hospital patients had two jabs, NHS boss says

NHS boss Chris Hopson adds it is "incredibly striking" how busy hospitals are with non-Covid patients.

Sorry if it’s going over old ground but is there any indication of the ages of the new cases? Are these likely going to be younger unvaccinated people?
I noted here that they’re going to open up vaccines to 12-15 year olds over the summer months as well.

That is what the NHS chief suggested. Though despite attempts to slander young people as vaccine sceptics there has been excellent take up from 30-39 so far.

I don't know anyone out of my group of friends (all similar ages) who haven't had the vaccine yet.
But I know loads of older sceptics from the local who refuse to have it.

They are miles behind the U.K. in first and second doses - this suggests it’s a take up issue and no longer supply. The other week you were saying full dose percentages were similar it’s now double in the U.K. to Italy.

I think that was at least a month ago when I said that.

I expect that between now and the end of summer it’ll get ramped up even further. They are going to start administering vaccines in pharmacies, workplaces etc.

As said before though, it differs from the UK as in each region is autonomous with its healthcare, so some will start sooner than others. Lombardia, for example, has already started vaccinating over 30s, whereas others are still doing over 50s only.

They will get there in the end, but right now we’re at 75% first dose, 45% second. By June 21st that ought to be at least 80/50

Ahhh ok I’ve read that the aim here is to get adults vaccinated by end of August, which seems doable.

Doesn’t explain why it’s rate is low on take up

I do see the under 16 thing is an EU driven approach as a means of trying to get herd immunity

I'd say that consideration is absolutely logical for any country across the globe, even this one, referenced this morning with Zahawi on Marr .

i would go through the adult age groups personally so the high risk elements are eliminated first

Ah, didn't realise it was related to the order of delivery.
But it's still an option choice I guess,we were headed for younger first I think until Blair/Hancock /JVCI Intervened with the analysis around increased lives saved by the older first option.

Edit:-haven't really seen the numbers crunched around this, was it 6000 more lives saved this way?
Through hindsight it would have been less optimal given what we now know about blood clots , lucky chaps get the boost of ,+20% greater efficacy.

Think the JVCI/PHE/government called it spot on with administering by age and high risk first. The gap between doses, which was derided across the world (but a necessity due to our high rates at the time) was also the right move.

There were loads of people calling for different options at the time, unions wanting teachers first, Cressida dick wanting police moved up the list, people wanting shortened time between doses (so less people jabbed) etc etc. For all the fuck ups we have made (most replicated across the western world), the vaccination programme from funding Oxford/contracting AZ, to procurement, to logistical planning and roll out has been nailed

.....well, at least as far as we know currently. I say that because none of us really know about the impact of these vaccines on us all. even though I’ve had two jabs (more to protect others than me) I wouldn’t force kids to have it until there is insurmountable evidence that the benefit of the jab to them is greater than the risks of getting covid. Some people may disagree but protecting the high risk/elderly through herd immunity by vaccinating kids who are, on the face of it, extremely unlikely to be severely impacted by covid, just seems wrong

Back to your point Steve it is/was a very intriguing point, pretty sure JCVI were looking to lowest first, where the spread was happening, which in isolation seems logical, not going that way has led to less mortality and a different vaccine, the best one going to the young, which should ultimately help reduce any further spread imminently and further on than if they'd had AZ ,I think.

Edit:-. Plus the doubts about blood clots would have surfaced here and posed take up issues regardless of impact on risk.

Some doctor on the radio then saying we should be concerned about opening up on 21st June because of the backlog of NON covid related treatments?

Therefore essentially wanting restrictions in place until the backlog is cleared, just incase covid cases rise alongside it .. yea that will go down well with the people I'm sure.

Not
