Even if the vax is 95% effective, with 100% uptake, 70m people means 3.5m people infected. And efficacy won’t be that high nor will take up.

95% what though.
Are the vaccines not also capable of stopping transmission ,and at around 70% herd immunity kicks in?

At the moment it's likely the efficiency % is the % stopping symptoms etc and you likely can still transmit the virus if you have been vaccianted.

Yeah just fag packet maths, but I think people forget small percentages of very large numbers are still large numbers.

I thought I'd seen stuff out of Israel is projecting the effect on transmission was similar to the actual efficacy against catching the darned thing?

It's a bit like the chat I was having with David last Autumn.
With testing what would the number of cases likely be at Wembley due to the less than 100% reliability of the test.
Think he was saying around 3000. ,equating to the shortcomings of the test .
But I couldn't see it being that due to the prevailing levels at that time in the community ,rather than assuming it would be 100% of those who'd had a rogue result.

that was the % of possible false negatives and positives even if something is 97% accurate there is the potential for 30 false results per 1000. This means that if you test a Wembley sized crowd with the with the machine you mentioned there could be 2700 false results.

Good numbers coming back from recent sporting events and the raves in.Liverpool.
Very few cases, though of course everyone took tests prior to entry.

I don't have a problem with the local lockdowns being based on guidance, not really sure what the fuss is about.
Lockdown #1 showed that the public took guidance as being equal to law, e.g. the limitation on outdoor exercise which didn't exist in law but did in the guidance

I agree it’s the inability to take ownership for it. Government should have said different rules apply in these areas for the reasons they need to be rather than do it on the sly. It’s as if they don’t want to be accountable and are placing the responsibility on individuals in those areas

It's incredible. I was posting it in the politics thread but it's just as relevant for here.

The incompetence is/was staggering. Worse than we could have imagined.

Not like Grenners to not have actually seen or have any knowledge of have he is talking about,

Cummings even said it was madness he was even allowed to be at the heart of government.

CONS + 3

I joke but a lot of what he is saying was already known and has been ignored so not sure its really going to have much impact.

Good one that is O'Drivel. You can't even string a sentence that makes sense together.

He did the next best thing though and went around shaking everyone's hand and boasted about it. Silly twat.

He's apologised for his own mistakes, he is not a government minister. I said this last year that it was convenient for the govt either way that he was around.

It presumed that people would not be willing to stay at home in order to prevent hundreds of thousands of deaths. Or even to protect themselves. It's incredible to me that this was treated as consensus.

But apparently it's Labour that think the public are idiots. When will people learn the opinion the Tories have of them is far, far worse. They're just as careful as possible to not say it in public.

Also funny how he was a legend last year to some and now the same people think he's a lying twat.

He was a c**t then and he's a c**t now.

BUT, he is at least admitting blame and fault, unlike Johnson & Hancock.

Also whilst he is probably still telling some lies he has evidence of some of the stuff he's saying.

Oh, I don't. I'm very sceptical about the whole 'inject me with coronavirus' crap and I'm sure a lot of this is Cartman-esque in rewriting the story in his own head.

But the fact that he can say this stuff and for people to think "yeah, that might be true' is damning enough in itself. If there was any kind of competence at all everyone's immediate reaction would be "bullshit!" to what he's saying.

A lot of it is backed by evidence and what we already knew anyway. Maybe not the “and then everyone clapped because Dom is awesome” stuff, but the general thrust.
