This reflects the conversation I was having a lot with David last autumn with that machine highlighted by Sky (97%accurate) and I was querying the likely number of false negatives, say Wembley for instance producing 3000 plus cases.
Admittedly there will now be an element of vaccine coverage among this data and I think the article states not all the data from sporting events is in yet.
Wonder whatever happened to that company and the kit?

It is probably in the process of setting up for commercial manufacture and gaining approval

He's the reason people are suffering with mental health issues, a bit of optimism and he straight away looks for the negatives.....wanker

Give it a rest. He’s trying to hold the government’s decision making to account. “He’s the reason people are suffering with mental health issues” is crass as fuck.

They don't, it pretty much kept Piers Morgan in a job.

It really isn't to be fair, you only had to watch Good Morning Britain when Morgan was on it to see how damaging it could be with all the scare mongering.

To think that having constant negativity from the media pushed at people all the time doesn't impact mental health is very naive.

What do these events actually prove in terms of how things we be moving forwards? They all require a negative test for entry so aren't they just showing you can put a load of people without covid in a room together and they don't catch covid from each other?

Or is this leading up to the introduction of tests and vaccine passports to get into events?

Makes sense to have tests and passports to get into events though.

Not that Peston's Twitter account is a hill that anyone would want to die on, but it's not every journalist's job to paint the sunniest picture they can. Think some people would prefer the North Korean approach by the sounds of it.

Willing to blame the media for damaging people's mental health yet just as willing to ignore the government's incompetence literally killing thousands and thousands of people.

Which is fair up to a point, but he doesn’t have access to the same data as Johnson.

Absolutely. And in all fairness I am of the belief that there are reasons to be cautiously optimistic about the 21st June plans. Peston is using the data available and explaining his thoughts, what would you be wanting a political journalist to be doing?

This is probably coming across as me being a big softie when it comes to all this, but given the levels of unjustified negativity/scaremongering you do see from the media I think it’s a bit of a stretch to be lumping in Peston’s comments.

Anyway, I don’t think it’ll matter what Peston says in the long run. I think it’s likely becoming clear that the strain isn’t vaccine resistant and, like I say, reasons to be cautiously optimistic. Emphasis on cautiously, we’ve got a further 5 weeks of data gathering yet.

Yes true, it just frustrates me that he's commenting as a lay person rather than a more scientifically grounded journalist. To justify full unlocking we need proof that vaccines cut the link between infection and serious illness. To be honest I think we have a large body of evidence to support just that, but no harm letting it grow for another month

I agree about the constant negativity.
But they reckon 20 percent of covid patients develop mental health issues s surely its not responsible to down play it either?

Well it's subjective isn't it.
Wasn't there an article about scientists and government admitting to inducing fear to persuade behaviours?

There was. But sometimes people need it to be honest.
We're within touching distance of getting back to some sort of normality, let's not blow it by being complacent.

Not even play it down, just not make out the world is going to end. Every single day Piers Morgan was shouting, screaming and saying how bad it was. He obviously didn't think it himself because he was behaving differently on a personal level.

How many people are going to be petrified of living a normal life now? Even reading this thread you can see that there are people who are going to live very differently now even when things are open.

Every little "mutant strain" is going to scare the shit out of people because of DEADLY MUTANT headlines where in reality more people have probably died on motorways this week.

It just needs context.

Well I think we know I've not been a fan of nudge nudge psychology over decisive instruction, but that's to do with the generation I come from .
We only need to look at the confusion on travel corridors last week to see what vague advice brings.

Be careful what you wish. Without focusing on the pandemic it's back to Brexit and what a fantastic achievement it's been so far. Oh, and the behaviour of government ministers during the crisis and reports on how we fared etc. I think for the Tories I'd be more than happy to have the press harping on about lockdown easing.

Decided to click on an anti vaxxers profile on twitter and have a read through , full of peoples opinions being retweeted etc.

It's crazy tbh I never realised just how many people were so against this.

The best one was a bbc article about a vaccine centre that had graffiti on it with the words depopulation centre or something like that .

Got me thinking , who would be the babysitters in a world with no 18 plus year olds
