Yep....Early studies appear to show that all the vaccines to date offer good protection from serious illness & death......regardless of mutation this or variant that....

.....so if that continues to be the case, they can fuck right off with any further covid lockdowns post 2021....

We can all have a jab & crack on with life.....assuming we still have one left to live.....

To be honest I think Johnson is itching to relax things but even he knows he has to wait until the relevant groups are double jabbed.

My wife works at the Horton in Banbury where they now have a Covid ward. Almost all of the patients are either elderly or very overweight. Goes to show getting the elderly and "vulnerable" jabbed asap will clear hospital beds most quickly.

I wonder if that is just that hospital, because I am hearing different from elsewhere. Much younger and I have friends, who have friends now on oxygen and in hospital and this is all in the past week.

They are all in their 40's.

Could be, the JR in Oxford has a far bigger operation and they might be "divi-ing" up their cases.

Government denies setting up unit to profile journalists and block Freedom of Information requests

It follows allegations of an "Orwellian" unit at the Cabinet Office that blocks damaging Freedom of Information requests.

More gaslighting, it's all due to the variants / people bringing it in for other countries...

Hancock says people subject to hotel quarantine will have to pay £1,750
Hancock says the strategy to tackle new variants has four parts.
First, the government wants to get overall case numbers down.
Second, surge testing is being used to tackle new outbreaks.
Third, vaccines are being rolled out.
And, fourth, border controls are being tightened.
Hancock says he will focus on the border controls.
It is already illegal to travel abroad without a reason, he says.
People arriving already need a negative test before they start their journey. And arrivals have been banned for people coming from “red list” countries where the risk is particularly high.
But the government is going further from Monday 15 February, he says. He says these rules are for England, but he says the devolved administrations are bringing in their own plans.
There are three features to the new system: hotel quarantine, testing and enforcement.
People who need hotel quarantine will need to pay £1,750 per individual for the hotel, transport and testing.
He says arrivals will be taken to a designated hotel. The government has contracted with 16 hotels, for 4,600 rooms initially.
They will have to stay in their rooms and will not be allowed to mix with other guests. They will have to quarantine for 10 days, or longer if they test positive.
And there will be “visible security” in place to ensure people comply, he says.

Easy-read blog post about the first evaluation of the #NHSCOVID19app, with link to the full report https://coronavirus-fraser-group.org/blog

In short: comparing variation in uptake across geographical areas allows researchers to separate the effect of the app from everything else.

Conclusion: it's brilliant! (With stated levels of confidence on exactly how brilliant - it's tricky to pin down because the app does such a good job on privacy and anonymity.)

Take-home: Install it, keep it updated, and take notifications seriously because they genuinely do help to break chains of transmission. Thank you to everyone who is already doing this - you have saved lives.

Currently a publicly available pre-print, submitted for formal peer-review; informally reviewed by a number of independent scientists over the last few weeks.

More technical details including ongoing and future research and development: Demonstrating the impact of the NHS COVID-19 app

Got to be honest. I’d forgotten all about the app. If I’ve got it it’ll only be because it auto installed when I upgraded my phone. Should probably check on that.

Just checked. App was installed but not set up and enabled. Worth checking if anyone else upgraded their phone over lockdown.

Would still like to know if there was a stage or mutations that led to it becoming lethal or more transmissible at that point from something similar or otherwise?

Genuine question: has there been any proof of dodgy stuff at the WTO or is this all nudge nudge wink wink?

Dunno. Dunno much about the WHO either.

What I do know is.

Pandemics aren't an uncommon thing.

Jumping from animal to human isn't uncommon.

Therefore, the most likely conclusion is that this is a natural phenomena, exacerbated by modern shrinking of the world.

Trump actually raised some salient points but it was mixed in with his usual helping of bullshit.

I've seen nothing to suggest there is any collusion between the Chinese authorities and the WHO bit I do think there was an initial cover up by the Chinese and a much higher death toll in Wuhan than reported.

I do think the WHO have allowed themselves to be led down the garden path.

I'm basing that on stuff I read by 'citizen journalists' and bloggers who contradicted the WHOs early assertion in a report that they released early last year that said the Chinese had done everything by the book.

Maybe it was actually 5he bloggers set up to spread false information, who knows in the world we live in.

I agree thats still the most likely cause, however, the fact that China blocked the investigation for a year, limited areas of investigation and even on arrival made it difficult/delayed WHO reps, doesn’t really support a ‘we’ve got nothing to hide’ narrative. I doubt we’ll never 100% find out the whole truth

The suppression/intentional delay in acknowledging human to human transmission until after millions had left Wuhan and travelled around country and world ready for Chinese New Year and (apparently) after conclusion of phase one of trade deal with US, means they should have a lot to answer for either way

Not quite but the programme did show why they work with country’s with more patience than other organisations. The delay in confirming human to human caused massive issues for the world steve is right

They were scared and manage information with an iron fist. They hoped it would be ok and when it wasn’t they couldn’t make decisions to be transparent quick enough. Look at how the world reacted to the uk variant and South African variant etc. Not confirming human to human for weeks was awful or that it was airborne

If we’ve learnt nothing in this country over the last year - it’s that corruption and incompetence together is a deadly combination.
