This disease won't be busted by bullshitters and charlatans, but by those who have dedicated their careers to evidence and academic rigour. That should be a lesson for the world, but it won't be and we'll have climate change causing carnage not long after this (same century) which will also demand scientific innovation as the answer.

The virus isn’t the cancer I’m referring to, the cancer is the machine/system pulling the strings behind the likes of Trump Bolsonaro Boris and co.

No I know that, I did mean COVID specifically and how its eventual defeat by science should change attitudes, but won't.

James Cleverly talking utter bullshit on the BBC this morning, the brass neck of these wankers.
They actually think that because they've done well on the vaccine we should forget about all their other fuck ups and the death toll - vermin.

Still no data on the Pfizer one that 12 weeks is OK, I think (may be since I last checked, tend to get all my hideous news from this thread atm!!), so I guess you could argue, what's a week or two between friends?

Think there is data the Oxford one is OK at 12 but, as we see with other countries, I'll be happier once there's fairly uniform agreement that's the way to go.

Is any other country actually doing it? Italy’s very much concentrating on doing both the jabs rather than rolling out single doses - seems to be fine so far and one the leading countries in Europe for full inoculation.

Watching the 54 days programmes it made me think that why don’t Bbc and other organisations just look at the news reel and press conferences . There’s pure gold in them for anyone wishing to hold leaders responsible for promises and aims and getting things wrong

there's absolutely no doubt this line about 'we've been criticised for acting too quickly' has been briefed to ministers to repeat as often as possible to create a narrative which is the exact opposite of what's actually happened.

More data coming through. Good news:

Extra trial data shows Oxford/AstraZeneca jab effective in elderly, MHRA says
British regulators have received extra trial data from AstraZeneca that supports their view that the Covid-19 vaccine developed with Oxford University is effective in the elderly, a vaccines official said on Friday.
Reuters reports:
Britain has been rolling out the shot among all age groups after the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) was the first regulator to approve it in December, but some other European countries have said more data is needed before it is given to those over 65.
“Since [initial approval] we’ve seen more data coming through from AstraZeneca as more people are completing the trial, which highlights again that efficacy in the elderly is seen, and there’s no evidence of lack of efficacy,” Munir Pirmohamed, chair of the Commission on Human Medicines Covid-19 Vaccines Benefit Risk Expert Working Group said at a MHRA news briefing.

Saw a story earlier where Ursula Von der leyen was a bit more conciliatory, implicitly admitted that the EC had fucked up underestimating the scale and under investing in manufacturing capacity. Politically the Germans, French and others have backed themselves into a bit of a corner at the cost of their citizens.

I can already see it happening. Fuck up after fuck up leaving tens of thousands of people dead and hundred thousands more affected unnecessarily, millions affected due to economic incompetence but it'll just be "the vaccinations went well" because that's the last thing that happened.

The vaccination program is going well. If they can.pull it forward 2 or 3 months then that's amazing but why announce it now and give people false hope if it can't be done?

Ridiculous way to carry on.

There's no doubt a successful vaccination roll out will make a lot of people forget all the screw up a but it's a small price to pay for getting back to normality

Until they get reelected and the next clusterfuck they make. No-one should be allowed to forget the monumental number of fuck-ups they've made just because they look to have got one thing right near the end.

Imagine in 10 years time, they've got reelected because people have forgotten and another similar crisis occurred. Do you expect them to not make the same mistakes as they have this time? They might do a few things more quickly but on the whole I'd expect it be 'protect the economy' first (even though they won't say it it's what their actions will amount to) and protect the rich while everyone else suffers like it always is. Plus by that time they may well have sold the NHS up the river so their rich buddies can profit and we'll be totally in the shit.

I'm actually surprised you need to ask me that.
If the cabinet were in my front room I wouldn't trust them with the remote for the telly.

Can someone with some science/medicine know how give me an idea why they don’t appear to be offering the vaccine to CEV or Vulnerable children under 16?
Thanks

it depends on the level of vulnerability.
What Grendel said is correct but it appears if they are classed as extremely vulnerable they're getting it anyway but if they're classed as vulnerable they're not.

Over 20% vaccinated and 490,000 done in a single day. At this rate all adults will have second dose by 14th of August and that will likely come forward with more vaccine availability.

Is it necessary to add the name of the country to the different strains? Seems counter productive
