The Blair government used education as a means of massaging unemployment figures which has just been carried on. Courses should be free and there should be support but many even Russell group universities offer disastrous quality compared to a couple of decades ago.

No government will ever be brave enough but the reality is that many universities and courses are sub HND level from years ago.

Needs another thread, but the frustrating thing is the perfectly capable students, who get tarnished by association with the dossers and freeloaders.

Not wrong though, think of the money you’d save on mortgage/rent and bills if you become homeless.

Of course, that’s kind of what frustrates me with blanket tarring of degrees and universities. Can always send G the first year course content

That papers getting worse than the Sun.
Though I did say at the start of this thread the Tories had found a novel way of solving the health care for the elderly issue.

That’s not the point though is it? It’s actually proving my point that the actual genuine courses are being immersed in many others that aren’t. It’s pretty obvious you can’t dumb down doctor courses but you can create several new arts courses which are below A level standard and just rip people off

Well you are not.

I went to a Polytechnic but I had 20 hours a week study

Now the prime aim is to capture revenue through inferior accommodation at inflated prices and offer as many courses as possible.

Many universities actually need to be closed or have courses slashed

Completely agree with this. My degree was bloody hard work, had lectures as early as 7am and finishing as late as 9pm thats a world away from a lot of courses available today. Mate of mine's daughter is doing some sort of media studies degree, before lockdown she had 4 hours of lectures a week!

And of course we're pumping out thousands of students every year in huge debt qualified in areas that can't sustain anything like that number of jobs. So you've got industries now with huge sections of the workforce being made up of a constant stream of unpaid interns.

couldn't sleep last night and was lying awake thinking about all sorts of shit.

I realised as much as I hate the tory party I'd never fall out with someone because they voted tory.
I disagree with Brexit but I'd never fall out with someone who voted for it.

But I don't think I can have anything to do with someone who's a covid denier, some of the shit I've read makes my fucking blood boil. Imagine trying to deal with losing family members to this shit and having to hear people saying that?

On the same level as cunts like Alex Jones saying mass shootings were fake and his crack pot followers driving grieving parents to take their own lives.
Absolute vermin.

I have a friend in Kent. One of her best friends is on oxygen in hospital for the virus and this friend had to go to the hospital herself anyway and saw a few fire engines there. She asked what was going on and the staff told her that they had run out of ambulances because of constantly bringing in Covid patients and they had to call fire engines in to act as temporary ambulances.

Bullshit. It's not a social event to go to the library, and they have the same access as any student to digital facilities, so focussing on the overseas students' mental health is a falsehood, covering the increased cost and potential loss to a university.

Here, is in fact, why consideration is being given to overseas students.

Loss of international student fees could decimate UK research

Coronavirus will put almost every university in financial jeopardy unless the government steps in, vice-chancellors say
www.theguardian.com

The numbers involved are less than the numbers of staff - which if we're talking mental health issues, then they would consult them *as well* rather than just offering a dictat to open up for others.

Seems like you just want an argument without any awareness of the reality, so will leae you to it.
I don’t know why you keep saying social event like I’ve argued that it is...

Also I didn’t get from your original message that this is just solely for overseas students? Fact is you asked why they’re opening libraries and I gave you an answer. No need for an argument over nothing is there

Vaccinations at 480k+, case numbers down to 23k

here’s the interesting one for the data geeks (and hopefully tied into vaccination programme). On 18/1 there was 34.5k Covid patients in English hospitals, today 28.5k. That’s a decent drop and hopefully reflects the vaccine roll out (even though daily case numbers are high, longer term hospital admissions/stays are reducing)

Cov’s library has been open pretty much through out.

Students need to book spaces, socially distanced etc.

I feel for the students as their experience has been, quite frankly, shit and some of their online teaching subpar.

The Augar report has recommended that Uni fees be cut to a max of £7500.00 and this along with Brexit and the pandemic mean that a large number of universities are teetering on the edge and the last report I read was 40.

Cov expects to lose 22 million this year and is doing its best to not go down the mass redundancies route but this is not guaranteed. Leicester has just announced redundancies as has SOAS (which looks like it may go under) and UEL and this is on top of numerous others uni’s having already made redundancies including Surrey, Sussex, Liverpool as well as a number of others.

Perversely international student recruitment is booming, particularly from South Asia, since the reintroduction of the post study work visa which is digging a number of uni’s out of the mire.

I have just read that WHO have said that once the Uk has done the at risk groups we should pause to let the rest catch up. I have never read such rubbish, once we all of the people in this country that want it have had it then we can start worrying about the rest of the world.

Facebook letting fake news spreaders profit, investigators claim

Icke and his two sons are said to have experienced rapid growth in their 'ickonmics' subscription services, where you can learn about how the vaccines are part of the lizard's attempt to build human beings 2.0.

Profiting from people's misery.

edit - I should have said 'are also said', as I don't think it was this particular article, but was in one of the trad broadsheets yesterday

I'm waiting for the word repatriations to crop up, though personally, I think once we're vacc'd the elderly (over 70s), those with diseases that make them vulnerable and all front-line personal (including policeman), then sod the slightly old 60+ bastards like me, and start shipping to those parts of the world where the jabs can be most effective (so long as it's not the EU...)

Reflects mainly that in the last 12 days 6000 have left hospital many of them in bags as they account for many of the 15000 or so that have died since that date

Awful

Just fucking shoot these cunts,.honestly we'd be better off without them.
We've got a global humanitarian crisis on the go,.It's a huge challenge but it would be a lot simpler without these fuck nuts.

Icke wouldn't be around today to spread his shite without the numerous vaccines he had as a child the fucking cretin.

I don’t see the point in shipping it to third world countries the poor will never get it anyway and in places like Ethiopia they aren’t going to have many 70+ people anyway, so if you are going to put it in a young arm there we may as well do it here.

It starts in secondary with the removal of most vocational qualifications and forcing some kids to do academic ones that are totally unsuited to do. Why force a 15 year old with a reading age of an 11 year old to do an academic purse they will fail (and hate in the process) when they could thrive doing a vocational one, and have a route to a successful future.

People develop at different ages, too. Sending someone to uni at 18 might wreck their chances of getting a decent degree, whereas had they waited a few years until they decided it was for them / matured, they might do a lot better.

Either they are all truly fuckwits or they like easy money. Personally, I've long since stopped wondering whether the father was a fuckwit or just a low-life, grubby little man passing round the collection hat after one of his sermons.

What a nutcase there should be somebody there to take all the names of the people there and if any get Covid they should be refused treatment for it as in their eyes it doesn’t exist.
