Do you all think its possible we will have some level of restrictions for the foreseeable future, even if a large majority of the population are vaccinated?

The point all along has been to prevent NHS overwhelm. If enough people are vaccinated to remove that possibility then I don’t see why restrictions are necessary. We must not allow the unnecessary to become normalised

Think Priti Patel has been reading the forum. After the talk on here yesterday of the rules being easy to follow she said at last nights briefing the rules are "very simple and clear".

This was swiftly followed by her talking about how people can enjoy outdoor recreation. That’s outdoor recreation that was allowed under tier 4 but is not allowed under the current national lockdown.

According to today’s Guardian the rules have changed at least 64 times since March, that's a change every 4.5 days on average.

Of course Boris himself got the rules wrong in press conferences before. Criminal levels of incompetence in this government

No fan of Morgan and it could be anyone asking this question. If the cock turned around and said "yeah I was wrong" he'd get so much more respect. Instead you get the usual. Fucking prick.

it's like skirting around the question of why we're not vaccinating 24hrs a day.
He pretty much admitted today that we currently can't get enough vaccine to make a 24hr program worthwhile.
I think most can accept what a huge task ramping up production to the levels we ideally need is, why not just fucking say that from the first time the question was asked and say we'll update as capacity increases?

Politician not straight talking is not really news, but we're in a dire situation in a pandemic. For once, just be straight. It really makes a difference. They want people confused and divided though I suppose.

And if they decide to push minorities down the queue / coincidentally run out of vaccine at that point? It's an extreme example, but you have to cover it.

How about failing to support their co-workers if they're of a different race?

Again, for an hour of somebody's time, if you can't be bothered to do that, you're probably not the kind of person we should be trusting with something so important, as what else won't you be bothered with?

I was just saying exactly that to my mate Clint. The roll out is currently going well (albeit there’s ridiculous media noise of ‘sluggishness’ and labour trying to politicise it a little) but currently there’s probably not enough vaccine stock and Witty was saying they wanted it a controlled roll out initially to see where there were issues in the system

All they need to say though is when stock allows and as we move down priority lists (to people who are can get to vaccine centres more easily out of hours) we hope ramp things up and increase operational hours. That will no doubt be the plan anyway but they seem nervous to say so

Boris now saying we'll be going 24/7 on vaccines as soon as possible.

I mentioned that this should happen a few days ago and some of you were quick to suggest it was a stoopid idea. Grendel was very quick to say it was a throwaway comment.

I argue again that, should I get the call to get vaccinated at 3am or wait a few weeks for a more convenient time I'll bloody well be there.

I am not sure I will take it yet. There were reports/lies it affects fertility etc? Was that just in women? Bit worrying. Will do some reading up nearer the time I become eligible for it.

I’d be shocked if they’re currently in a position to deliver this but as soon as they are, I’m sure ether will. Why wouldn’t they ?* Id imagine it couldn’t be done with Pfizer jab and/or elderly priority groups (they are currently still doing care homes and over 80s) because you’d get a load of missed appointments and wastage. As you get sufficient stock available and/or move down to younger age groups it’s far more doable

*unless they are only getting honest racist, sexist, homophobic vaccine volunteers/applicants so can’t fill the available positions

Same. But listening to Hancock today supply is the issue. Hopefully production ramps up and it's 24/7 ASAP.

I don't believe him.

As an example why is Bedworth Civic only coming online tomorrow? We knew a vaccine would be coming since April last year. It's all a bit last minute on the governments part. Oxford and Pfizer have both said supply isn't an issue.

Would be much better if they just told us what the plan was going forward rather than randomly making announcements that contradict each other. First it was no 24/7 as nobody would go, then it wasn't possible logistically and now Johnson is saying it will be up and running as soon as possible.

Nobody is going to complain if they say at the start the aim is 24/7 but it is reliant on supply. Thats much clearer than getting a different answer depending who you ask.

Having seen the pictures from Millennium Point I think what people were expecting when the term mass vaccination centres was thrown around and the reality are quite far apart.

What was shown at Millennium Point could have been setup in 24 hours. Its not really that different to what gets set up for blood donations and they do that on the day.

600 vaccinations done on opening day, the aim is 1,200 vaccines per day and at some unspecified point in the future reaching 2,500 a day. That's great, and obviously the numbers we are seeing in total are great, but when mass vaccination was spoken about and reading the operational plan that was on the NHS website I was expecting them to be looking at much bigger numbers.

To a degree I find that more reassuring mind. Struck me a mass congregation of people waiting for a vaccination was the perfect super-spreader event!

1012 deaths (from various dates) announced in the daily NHS update today. That's the highest I've seen them ever announce. Add in all the other areas and today's going to be the highest yet, probably by some distance. Grim.

Wasn't it more not to have the vaccine if you were intending to get pregnant (and by that, within the next couple of months! and reason being unknown how it would or wouldn't affect an unborn baby) rather than it affecting fertility forever and ever?
