I think you’re right, enough to keep him in a decent position or he’ll make life very uncomfortable for many (reminds me a little of Mandelson with less intellect). Get him back as chief whip, it’s the ideal role for the slimy f*cker !!!

More of the kids I teach have now lost grandparents and older relatives to it. Certainly noticed behavioural changes in most just before Christmas

In lockdown 1 local forces were advised by the National Police Chiefs’ Council to work on the basis that the length of the exercise had to be greater than the time spent on travel. Or something along those lines, can't remember the exact wording. Suspect they'll use similar this time as nothing seems to be defined.

Doubt anyone will be questioned unless they're driving for miles like those idiots that had to be rescued in the snow after they decided to take a day trip to the Peak District.

Covid: Women on exercise trip 'surrounded by police'

The two women were given £200 fixed penalty notices after driving five miles to go on a walk.

I know that you shouldn’t speak ill of the dead but he was a covidiot. Believed all the conspiracy theories, refused to wear a mask etc. I was shocked to be honest about his attitude when my brother told me, met him a few times at brothers birthday drinks, christenings etc and he never came across as anything other than sensible. Married with a teenage daughter who are now dealing with the cost of his stupidity. They think he got it at the pub, apparently there was a cluster of 6 centred on his local and he was in there regularly.

I wonder if it’s impacted any of his mate who I’d assume hold similar views?

I can’t get over how reality resistant recent conspiracy theories are. Within hours the Trump riot had been alternative facts’d, and even with tens of thousands dying across the country you’ve got nutters convinced it’s not an issue.

You'd hope so. Then again, one of the problems with Covid and the necessary controls round it is that people can't see the severe respiratory illness it causes and the impact. It is a year ago yesterday since my sister was taken into ICU with similar (flu originating rather than covid though) and seeing her struggling to breathe like that will live with me forever.

Back when the pubs were open I was hearing so much "LOL I've not got long left anyway" 'banter' in the local. All older men.
People just don't take it seriously.

I was heavily sceptic at first, look back at the start of this thread and I trotted out all the 'it's just like flu, more people die in cars' etc. bullshit but I was wrong, this is serious and we need to do whatever we can to be rid of it.

Weirdly I've gone the other way kind of. I was very wary of it from the very beginning, my comments early on in this thread will attest to that even when other people were still laughing about it.
But from a personal worry point of view I've gone from washing food deliveries and being scared in my house to living my life as normally as possible whilst still being careful.

Ok, I see Derbyshire police have already started where they left off in the first lockdown with policing not based on the law. Like it or not nothing the 2 women did was actually against the law.

How long until we get some clown of a plod trying to police what people are buying in a supermarket again?

My head still occasionally drifts in to, 'protect the vulnerable and everyone else crack on as normal' even though I know, for now at least, that is a false dichotomy.

Can join you in that. I'll defend myself that it shows great intelligence to be swayed by the evidence, rather than stick dogmatically to a position

At first I thought it wouldn't make it here, then when it did I thought it would be like swine flu (which I had when it was around) a bitch but basically harmless to the vast majority of people. While COVID-19 may only take out a few percent of the people it gets it leaves a lot of lasting damage to a significant number of survivors and is so infectious the small percent that die could be fucking loads of people.

They're my local police force, don't see them doing anything in the town centre here or much around any local walking areas. That said, in lockdown 1 they coned off parking bays on the Snake Pass to stop people parking up to walk around reservoirs etc. It is completely illogical and counter productive. People can go for a walk outside in the fresh air, it might be what stops them from flouting rules otherwise.
