The problem with Mr Starmer is that we have to consider if his road to sensible middle ground politics is a genuine transformation to sensible politics or a cynical attempt at a power grab before the wolf is revealed

He was clearly an extreme hard line Trotskyite with some very strange views. Have these changed that much?

It is the right course of action from now but I feel the second jabs for the first 800k should have been honoured.

The worrying bit of that is the R rate of the new strain during the recent 'lockdown' was 1.45. I'm sure that will have in part been driven by schools remaining open so hopefully having them shut recently will bring that figure down to some extent.

If we are going to regain any sort of control over the next few weeks then it needs a rethink of what we class 'lockdown' as and the public really will have to buy into this else we are heading for the worst of the pandemic just as we've got ourselves a vaccine.

Everyday at work I'm dealing with companies who have their offices open and staff in when there is absolutely no reason their business couldn't continue uninterrupted with everyone working from home.

What I can't understand is that even when they brought in the new tiers they admitted only tier 3 would reduce cases yet we continued with huge sections of the country in tier 2 as cases continued to increase.
Independent said:
New tough Covid-19 restrictions that will continue for 99 per cent of England are unlikely to be relaxed this winter, Chris Whitty has warned.

The chief medical officer appeared to rule out any more areas moving down into tier 1, with the loosest curbs – arguing cases “will rise” if that happened.

Professor Whitty also warned that only the harshest tier 3 regime would cut infections, with tier 2 only strong enough to “hold the line”.
“If you're in tier one, the rates start to go up so you do not want to do that in winter, just before Christmas, going into the worst time for the NHS,” Professor Whitty told a press conference.
So the question now is do the increased restrictions in tier 4, closing non-essential shops and gyms seems pretty much it, do enough to offset the increased transmission of the new variant?

But as you say if people don't buy in and stick to the rules we'll get nowhere fast. There was a nurse on TV yesterday in tears talking about how much pressure they were under yet people still ignore the rules. Also a paramedic who said when they're going into peoples homes its clear they haven't been keeping to the rules.

Of course the inconsistencies don't help with the messaging. You can go on a hunt but can't play 5-a-side in the park. Can't have 2K in St Andrews socially distanced but can cram kids into schools. These are the things those breaking the rules highlight to justify their actions.

Covid: Met breaks up more than 50 New Year's Eve parties

A total of 217 people are issued with fixed penalty notices for breaching tier four regulations.
www.bbc.co.uk

Why is breaking up 50 parties in a city of 9.3 million even a story?

It is for the client BBC to build a narrative that the public is solely to blame for the catastrophe hitting London hospitals

It’s a good question to ask so why don’t we? And it’s to do with mass testing and adhering to quarantine

Toby Young is another. Laurence Fox is as thick as pig shit, constantly going on about how he should be able to say what he likes and no one has the right to be offended and then plays the victim when people say what they like about him.

Primary schools in London to stay closed until at least the 18th. Does that not mean they'll have primary kids, where we're told transmission is virtually zero, off while exam years at secondaries, where transmission is higher, will be back in a week earlier? Not to mention why only London?

I like when he denies any notion of privilege, having grown up as a perfectly common member of an acting family who went to Harrow

As shit as it is for kids, it seems wiser to Squash it down now, get the vaccinations done and hopefully we can return to normality quicker, rather than treading water for longer. Give each child some light learning to do over the summer if required. (supported by parents rather than teachers)

Ministers urged to close all schools in England for two weeks

Call comes after government said all primaries in London should remain closed next week
www.google.co.uk

Come on Gavin announce all tier 4 as well and let’s avoid tens of thousands of deaths during January

If parents knew exactly was happening in schools they probably wouldn't be so keen to send their kids back.

Corridors are crowded with kids, rooms used by more than one bubble group in between cleaning, staff breaking rules, headteachers turning the other way, no extra cleaning or deep cleaning, cleaners given no help....

He’s a shit actor as well. His career is the epitome of privilege living of the back of his dads ability and connections. To prove it even more he’s a very shit singer who got a two album deal.
