We've had the Prime Minister and Chief Medical Officer say there is a new strain that is more infectious and it is vital we don't allow it to spread around the country. The publics response is huge traffic jams and packed train stations. What are the chances of that strain not spreading to the rest of the country now?

They should never have released any info about the potential relaxation and especially not weeks before. We've got a massive thread about whether fans would be allowed back into grounds. If we were, it's not like everybody would say nope, it's not safe whatever government says and refuse to go.
As fp says, the main issue is deciding on national policy for Christmas so far in advance. Changing that was always going to cause issues.
The selfish of London have caused mayhem and cramming into trains will certainly have helped spread it all over the country, lockdown post Xmas is coming. He should have announced it and fully locked London down immediately he knew they would run for it and he gave them the chance to do it.
Tbf I thought they'd got better recently, being more cautious.
