Yep, very few insurance policies will cover anything like this. Some of the biggest companies will have had such clauses written in but most won't. Business interruption tends to be fires, floods and whatnot.

Would be interested to know why you believe insurance companies are telling venues they are not covered for voluntary closure but would be covered for a government imposed closure if they are then, should the government impose that closure, going to turn round and say that isn't covered either.

Take a look at GSMA and MWC, it was cancelled but the GSMA wanted the Spanish government to declare a state of emergency to claim on the insurance, once that was leaked to the press it was the end of that and it was cancelled. Now hundreds of companies could be out of pocket.

My wife is quite senior in the pub industry and said exactly that yesterday. They’d be better off if the government advice was to shut all pubs because then insurance would kick in. Who has most influence in government, the insurance or hospitality industry?

@Sick Boy With our new measures ramping up and the chief medical inspector saying our cases could start to reduce/slow down in 2-3 weeks, do you think we'll have it as bad as Italy?

It's impossible to say, there has been far more testing going on here compared to the UK by the looks of it so who knows how many cases there actually are in the UK, only time will tell, unfortunately.

Can't speak for them but I've spoken to two mates who own venues who have both been told by their insurers that they are covered if its government imposed.

If anyone feels inclined can they sign this petition. I know most of the times petitions do nothing but it will only take a second. More details from the Music Venue Trust:

Yeah we won't be able to tell on official cases but hopefully we won't see the carnage in hospitals that Italy has seen in places like Lombardy

If you can’t see what this is all about then you cane down with the last drop of rain. Forcing people to make their own decision not to attend as opposed to having it cancelled on them provides a loophole for insurers. I can see more lawsuits on the horizon because the govt are shutting down but not saying they’re shutting down, creating a huge grey area which clearly suits insurers but not the insured.

Let's hope not! As i've said, it wasn't taken seriously here by the general population until 2 weeks ago, let's just hope that there won't be the same outcome there.

Hopefully not. We have less ICU beds than Italy so we could be in real trouble if things do get bad.

We are also unlikely to have 80 percent of cases in 1 region either

We don't see to have the same concentration of cases in 1 area. London is a worry but it's nowhere near lombardy levels.

My bet is the government will back the insurers as they’ll have shares in those companies

59% of the cases in this country are in London and the South East, 44% in London itself. Not quite as bad as Italy.

I've been reliably informed that the local holiday inn will be commandeered & used for overflow patient care up here.
All NHS staff have been put on a 12 hour emergency standby with doctors being re-directed from all un-related fields of expertise to care for the influx of patients.
both worrying & re-assuring at the same time.
Not sure if they are expecting an additional peak here on Merseyside after the 3000+ Athletico fans partied all around town last week....

Can’t help but feel people really haven’t grasped the seriousness of this. All this talk of “lol I’ll just carry on” when the message from government is very clear that you won’t. The plan is these measures are here until a vaccine is with maybe small breaks if NHS capacity allows. Reminds me of what @Sick Boy was saying the Italians were like two weeks ago.

I may have got my figures mixed up, lombardy may have 80 plus percent of the deaths and 90 plus percent of the cases on a Much larger number of cases.

I have already said long is a worry though.

I see that since the Imperial College study was taken seriously, all mention of ‘herd immunity’ has quietly been dropped. But that study was available 7 weeks ago so essentially we wasted 7 weeks experimenting & messing around on something which could never work. And the BBC are saying “the science has changed”- no it hasn’t, you just ignored the right info and forged ahead with rubbish.

when the dust has settled, that may go down as one of the biggest blunders in decades.

I have some Taiwanese pen friends.

It's quite amazing how they have been able to tackle Covid-19, despite only being 110 miles from the Chinese border.

Just 67 cases. 1 death.

But what happens if it returns? Do they keep doing the isolation stuff? That may be the answer I suppose

I am still right, I have said measures would be implemented when they think it's the best time. I know you will to be revisionist with your ramblings but let's not lie here.

Also why are why are you referring to yourself in the 3rd person? How many people are you in this thread l?

Yes already I know you did. You were carrying on for ages shouting down anyone who dared to question the ‘experts’, now after all the U turns and climbdowns it turns out it was right to question what they said. And that’s that, get as butt hurt as you like, that’s your problem not mine.

Is that the proven liar posting? Just says ignored user. I do hope he gets the help.he so sorely needs.

Now if we gave everyone x amount of money to spend to help increase the aggregate demand in the economy would it work as a short term.boost? If so how how much would be needed? Bare in mind traditional QE is ineffective for this as it doesn't trickle down to the macro economy and must props up balance sheets
