I think we do - it's a chap called Chaplin. But Pompey know we have the cash
I feel sorry for the guy - after all this, and given McNulty's record in L2, he will have a lot pressure on him

City surely have their own deadline.
Sod it, just use McNulty cash for Eisa instead.

Think I'd rather Chaplin than Eisa tbh. If I had the choice I'd want a proven league one striker or at least someone who's threatened goals at this level

The way people go on about Eisa I full expect a 50 goal season and at least 1 goal every game. He has had 1 season as a professional in league 2 so I would definitely not be spending more than we got for mcNulty on signing him.

Got a feeling this is done and dusted possibly waiting for Robins to return from Spain for official announcement.

I saw city play Cheltenham home and away last season and he does look the real deal in my opinion. Even in a poor Cheltenham side, he scored plenty of goals and his pace and technique is excellent.

Perhaps if we made overtures to Cheltenham about Eisa it might actually put a rocket up Jacketts arse to get the Chaplin deal done instead of running the risk of losing Eisa to us!
Double Bluff.....

Please excuse me for joining in your debate again with my opinion, for what it is worth. From a Pompey perspective I would rather keep Chaplin than get Eisa. As someone else has pointed out Chaplin has played at this level whereas Eisa has not. I think if you liked McNulty you will like Chaplin because they are very similar, except Chaplin has more pace and McNulty more experienced. McNulty was good for us but Paul Cook was set on his one up front policy and most of us craved to see the pair of them played together where, I think, they would have caused havoc. Your manager has obviously watched Chaplin and he knows that Chaplin will fit in to your style of play and, as he is so much like McNulty, you wont have to change much. Out of the two, Chaplin or McNulty, I would choose Chaplin as is younger and he has more pace but McNulty does have more experience.

Really hope it is a done deal (and have a hunch it is also), based purely on what Pompey fans have to say about him, I always think this is the best way to judge a player without watching them play. they are the ones that watch players week in week out, will tell you 10 times more than a swanky YouTube video with a Calvin Harris track in the background... Also If Robins likes him, then in him I trust!

What’s the point of that though? We can’t play two shit strikers in place of one decent one. We’re still only allowed 11 men.

I mean by that logic why not get 100 non league strikers in for £10k each?

Said at the start we should just offer all the McNulty cash for Eisa, same terms.

By your own logic he is an unproven striker at league 1 level

I could counter that with some managers see Lee Burge play Home and away last season and thought he looked the real deal

I know watching clips of players is dangerous as they make everyone look like Ronaldo but to me some of the goals Chaplin scored were above and beyond anything McNulty was capable of. I think if we get him for less than half what we got for McNulty we've pulled off a brilliant bit of business.

Sorry but I hope you don't get to "pull off a brilliant bit of business". When you see one of your favourite players being shown off by their new club wearing their new clubs shirt it is like someone showing you nude pictures of your wife, only worse.

Time to look elsewhere, or at least put stuff out to the media that we are and link/enquire about other strikers...
Jackett wants the money and Chaplin wants to leave. Bluff time!

It is encouraging that for the first time in many seasons there does seem a confidence that players want to come here.

should'nt pander to Kenny Jackett as he is a knob! he fucked us over coming in for Clarke when he was at the top of his game and he hardley played him in Wolves first team. We should back off and start to make spurious bids for forwards he is after and it will soon make him come to the party. The guy is a grade 1 knob! (not that i am bitter or anything)

Have you considered the possibility that Robins might not want Eisa? Our friends from Portsmouth, who’ve seen both Chaplin and McNulty btw, seem to think they’re similar players with similar attributes so that would make him a natural replacement.

Personally, for £1.5m it’s a no from me and he has to turn in another 20+ goals in a season to worth that sort of money. At least with McNulty, we’d been promoted so could afford to play a bit of hardball. If someone else is willing to pay that, then fair enough, I wouldn’t in our situation.

The situation needs to be resolved soon, unless the rumour is completely fabricated someone in the chain is dithering and/or messing around.

Based on the feedback from Portsmouth fans and his fairly impressive stats, plus his age and therefore potential he’ll be good I’m sure. However whether he’s a direct replacement for McNulty I’m not sure and I wouldn’t want the weight of expectation solely on him.

Therefore it would be a great signing as long as it’s alongside someone else. A relatively unproven trio of Chaplin, Ponti and Biamou alongside an underwhelming JCH isn’t the strongest four to go into the season with.
