You say that, but Woolf played 15 games in the Prem, Chaplin 22, Morsy 33, Broadhead 18…players from the season before played big parts in the Prem. The problem from the outside was in recruiting a Championship dream team (which is what you still have this season) you fall into the trap many others have before and many others will after.

As for this CCFC team, people aren’t oblivious to the fact that there will be a lot of player turnover and there’s a big challenge to strike a balance between maintaining some sort of continuity which has served us very well since Robins’ appointment and having players with the quality needed for a fair crack at staying up. The number of people myself included trying to ‘lock in’ the good feelings now are a reflection of people knowing this may well be as good as it gets.

I haven’t checked but I think the appearance numbers you have quoted include a lot off the bench, especially the forwards.

The club have explained why the recruitment policy after promotion. Successive promotions meant our scouting network was miles below where it needed to be for a premier league team. Apparently clubs like Brighton have a huge network or representatives and contacts across the world, we barely had UK coverage. They stuck to players that they knew.

Harsh but I couldn’t care less what other teams fans think of our team any more than you give a stuff what others think of yours. What I can tell you is that the team who won back to back promotions were loved, not just because of results (although that’s a big part) but the connection between players, fans, manager and owners was unlike anything I’ve experienced in nearly 50 years as a supporter. Morsy, Chaplin, Broadhead, Luongo, Woolfy (blotted his copybook with a few salty comments since leaving), Hladky, Donacien are up there for many with our great teams of the past who won major trophies.

Premier League riches and the safety net of parachute payments meant that a lot changed quickly. Everyone of those mentioned was replaced. Most are objectively better footballers but we lost more than we have gained in the views of many. We’re now on our third team in three years - the promotion team, the premier league team (the main frustration was we weren’t even competitive in the prem and so the feeling was that those who got us there may as well have had the chance they earned) and the current one. So many changes mean all that was built up in 2 years has been lost. Players come in who are clearly there for the money and with no genuine love for the club. You’re likely to experience the same. When your club spend £10m, £15m £20m on a player it will blow your mind. When they then turn out to be not a huge upgrade on the player you’ve shared success with it feels odd. They’re your player, you want to get behind them but it’s hard when you see a mercenary who has replaced a favourite who worked his bollocks off for a fraction of what they’re being paid.

Spot on! We got to where we are with that comradery. Which i think will be diluted come next season
