Yeah, I got that feeling too. I like that it seems he's done his due diligence.

This is a massive job for him. Would he have taken over at Preston, Millwall or QPR? Don't think so.

If you looked at the attacking players at his disposal at Everton, a few weeks before he got the chop -

Demarai Gray, Maupay, McNeil, Onana

I'd take Sheaf, Wright, Bassette and Sakamoto over those.

Onana went for £50m in the summer and has been one of Villa’s best players. You’re joking surely?

Had it up to here with Lampard's commercials to be honest.

During pre-season even Robins was talking about play offs, and having this great squad to have a real push. Few weeks into the season he's telling everyone to reign in expectations. I think THAT, very there, was the end of MR.

Wasn't my first choice but I see it as a good thing that Lampard has a point to prove. He has managed in the prem for a couple of years so would like to think he wouldn't be tempted to jump ship at the first chance of premiership job, whereas some of the other names being linked felt like we would be a stepping stone for them. Glad the saga is over, roll on Saturday then Millwall

It's a shame about Boateng, my kind of era, as I was in my teens when he was here. He seems a nice fella but seemingly no room for him and perhaps not quite at the 'elite' level.

Can I just ask, who out of the likely candidates would people not have been “underwhelmed/disappointed” with?

Are people so far entrenched in the idea that anybody other than Robins isn’t good enough for this club? You’re determined for this to go wrong…

That’s generally how it works with the person at the top of the organisation. I’m not sure this is a ground breaking insight.

Same here; he was a key figure of the 1997-2000 CCFC team that was around when I first started supporting the club, and it's always a thrill when a former player returns as a coach. Shame it hasn't worked out

I'm not bothered, he requested a transfer back in 99 and wanted to leave so we don't owe him anything
