I’m sure we’ve done our homework on this signing

Balden and the recruitment team have put their balls on the line and if these players turn out to be poor we will need to assess their Thinking on what constitutes a good player. I am really hopeful they are the right people to find talented players but next season we should be in a position to take a view on their endeavours.

We still need bright in my view as no one we have signed looks like an out and out number 10.

I think the difference is now we have a recruitment team who are clearly doing in depth research. Doesn't mean every signing will work out but they should have more chance.

Did they do that with Meyler?

What has that to do with anything? He’s a loan player from a premier league club.

People can get oddly excited with any player we sign. Meyler was dross and anyone could see that

Name the last decent player we signed from an overseas club

After it didn’t work with Elery Cairo, can we give the ‘pass to the Dutchy on the left hand side’ another go? :D
And singing that song in Birmingham 'pass the Dutchie on the left hand side ' will go down well with the locals, the song was sang by the Birmingham group Musical Youth .

We could probably dredge up some sceptical comments about Bright when he first joined. So it wasn’t immediately obvious he’d be a good player for us.

How many players have we signed from abroad since Gunnar and Mifsud?

Malaga, Slager and Manset (he was at Reading and Carlisle before us)? How many appearances had these players made in a decent league?

Comparatively, Jobello and Kastaneer have played international age group football, have played the majority of their career in Ligue 2 and Eredivisie.

Off the bat, comparing these kinds of players you see the current signings have good pedigree. As opposed to the past policy of taking a punt on a cheap oversees player.

Let me stress that this doesn’t guarantee they’ll be good for us as they may struggle to adapt. But, there’s cause for optimism.

I guess you’d have been thrilled many years ago if you’d been at a club that signed a premier league superstar by the name of Paul Telfer

Anyone have any idea how much was paid for him ?
Having seen him a few times he’ll do ok if he can be motivated. Dutch League 1 is actually 3 leagues in one. Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord could compete in the PL, the middle is top league one/ bottom Championship. The bottom (where this guy came from) is no better than League one. Technically they like the ball on the ground and pass the cover off the ball. Kastaneer is reasonably big, fast and in the right place should be ok, if motivated. If it gets Jordi up on the shoulder of the defence it’s worth it for that alone. NAC fans suffered cr*p manager far longer than uk would this season and sold out every game at home.

These sort of players being.....? How many Dutch premier league players have we signed previously then ?

I can think of two off the top of my head - they were both shite

Why? He played 17 premier league games.

1 season and we signed him years after then. Using the most ridiculous examples is just counterproductive.

Scepticism is good, they are risks. Just as all signings are.

A quick check on google for Jobello and Kastaneer demonstrates why O’Donovan is a v poor example.

I disagree
