The cov telegraph is one of the worst papers you can buy, it prints very inacurate portrails of courts cases for a start i can assure you of that after being a victim of their misleading prints, it does have a knack of over sensationalising everything, which is not a good quality even if the excuse is "well they all do that" ... local papers used to be about quality local journalism and usually they had a reputation for fighting on the behalf of local poeple and causes, usually against the local authoritys and powerful organisations.
The CT has fell into decline in recent years and has become a bit of a joke, so many of the stories in there now are just simply he said she said type rubbish. But most upsettingly for City fans is the way in which it has become on a par with the notorious football rumour websites.. it is unbelievable how many players it has linked us with that were simply never coming to our club, raising and dashing our hopes for the sake of a headline, for example the Eastwood saga ..its on its off, it is back on, no it is now off, this went on for months! we just want the news when it happens, leave the speculation and rumours to the rags, in our local paper we want the news that has taken place not might take place.
As for the CT being anti city, im afreaid i have to agree, i dont think there is any point denying it the CT are proper doom merchants, the amount of times i have listened to a sisu representative or a manager live on the BBC CRW interviews it appears in the CT the next day with a differing account, always with the slant on certain words usually being out of context. In my opinion it is the CT that has caused the problems between Hoffman and the owners. If the Telegraph had stayed out of the matter and simply allowed the 2 parties some privacy, (in other words not reported on either sides opinion or information), the sale would have been more likely to go through, but Hoffman used the telgraph as junk mail to get his message out to the fans whilst at the same time SISUS reservedness and silence ( a professional attitude in a position of a possible sale of the club) was put across to the fans in the CT as a negative attitude ... Im really pleased this thread was made because this has been a thought of mine for a while now. I used to love the CT but have to admit I and many freinds have stopped buying the paper now, it just hasnt been the same since it went to morning sales.
lets hope the next time the club is negotiating a sale of the club the CT stay out of it and they simply report it is sold the day after it is. with all the facts set in stone. Good reporting.
