NEWS: Club Update - August 2022

We understand some concerns from fans over the last few weeks and it is important that we address as many as we can.

Why is Owners in a capital "O"? They're not God!

“However, despite this great effort, the costs of competing in the Championship, squad expenses/wages and the running the Club continue to increase each season and continue to exceed these revenues”

Basically, suck it up

Not sure it really answers a lot of questions tbh. If the owner is still constantly putting in funds to cover losses then why are we desperate to sell?

It answers some questions, but raises others, which I don't think they are willing to answer.

By saying that they've essentially admitted they can't afford to operate in this division. Not that's anything new or a surprise.

They need to sell up, then.

Honestly, if that statement was meant to make us all feel better...it will only wind people up. Patronising bollocks. Felt like it was written like a teacher writing a report at school telling us it's up to us to improve with no conception that maybe they're shit!

It’s done it’s job then, twitter lot loving it. And if you dare to question the club then apparently you are having a meltdown

A nice statement to prepare the fanbase beforehand for when another player inevitably gets sold before Thursday night?

Also it says we didn’t pay for the pitch repairs , which A) I doubt and B) if so makes the Hyam sale even more confusing

Good point! If it said that we had to sell Hyam to pay for the pitch it may have been more palatable.

The Club is also impacted by current ‘cost of living’ increases, such as energy costs, travel costs etc – with around £500k of cost increases on last season.

I did wonder when we were going to get the new and updated ‘unforeseen costs’ for the season.

Also, by their own admission they completely misjudged the pitch situation.

All in all I’m not sure whether to be impressed or horrified by this update.

Gah people are so fucking needy and entitled. Moan when nothing is said, pick it apart when it is.

Basically a bunch of babies raging that we haven't got a sugar-daddy to bankroll us. suck it up! much rather be in our situation than that of a plenty of other teams in our league who are chucking good money after bad and wracking up huge debt.

It is pretty fucking obvious they are trying to sell the club. If the playing squad is adequate to compete and stay in the league whilst they chase a sale, it would make no sense for them to pump money in which they wont get back.

Dom is the only 1st teamer we haven't replaced from last season and the article says we will be continuing our search for recruits. Chill out

There's also transfer instalments on Sheaf and Gyokeres likely due. That's on top of the pretty severe cashflow shortage and pitch costs - assuming contrary to reports we did in fact pay for the repairs.

Their own reports. Strange brew, surely it would suit their narrative so they wouldn't lie?

“Boo hoo, running a football club is expensive”

Says absolutely nothing of substance, no inclination they’ve learned from mistakes, verges on blaming fans.

Pathetic response. The “Owners” can come and explain or fuck off quite frankly. This lets pretend they’re a mysterious force the people running the club have no communication with crap is farcical.

The choice is clear: A L1 side at best with Sisu or someone else

This but Hoffman instead of Homer

There is no justification for not communicating the executive boxes debacle earlier. Can't believe they're trying to justify that one.

It says "Coventry City are not paying any additional funds on top of our rent agreement fee to fund the pitch improvements" which is what was suspected wasn't it? We'd already paid rent and we've now made further upfront payment which will be offset against future rent. Long term we don't pay more but short term it impacts cash flow, particularly with no income from home games.

The statement asks more questions than it answers really. It wouldn't be picked apart if it provided any actual clarity.

Is it obvious they are selling the club? Unless a prospective buyer comes in with a ridiculous bid that matches their overinflated valuation I can't see SISU selling anytime soon.

How are the club still searching for recruits when it has severe cashflow issues, players they've previously sought to move on are still on the books and the entirety of the fee received for Hyam has been used to bridge aforementioned cashflow issues?

It's utterly laughable. They'd clearly known about the pre-existing event for months and no pre-warning was given. There's simply no excuse for it and the reasoning they've given is pathetic. Talk about passing the buck.

People can complain but without someone willing to just throw money away what alternative strategy should they pursue? The only way they're going to make significant returns is promotion to the Prem and they simply aren't going to write the kind of cheques required for that.

So we're, at best, treading water until someone is prepared to buy the club. Its all well and good saying sell up, you need a willing buyer and lets not pretend someone like Hoffman coming in is going to give the kind of funding people want put into the club.

One silver lining on a very dark cloud is it might just might make a takeover not too far away.

This is posted every time this question is asked so is probably pointless but:

We sell players for a profit. That’s the model. It’s the only one close to working at this level. If you don’t do that and you don’t accept a loss, sooner or later you’re a league one or lower side. That’s just gravity. There’s no “treading water” at this level. Not one club has stayed at this level under the strategy Sisu are employing.

And by all accounts all approaches for the club are knocked back.
