Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has said that he wants Marlon King to stay at the Sky Blues next season.

King netted his third goal in three succesive matches for City last night against Nottingham Forest and was the clear man of the match again.

Speaking about King who will be out on contract on June 30th and has been attracting interest and whether he would like him to stay, Boothroyd said: "Very much so I've started looking at beyond this season, I think we've got to keep all our best players."
King has not been offered a new contract and asked whether he will be or not, Boothroyd said; "That will be a board decision and my recommendation would be 'absolutely'.
"Tie him down and do it because he's a terrific player and he's shown that - whether he's playing badly, well or indifferent - his work-rate is outstanding and that's what I expect from my players and that's why he works the way he does because we've been together for such a long time.
"Yes, I would be hopeful he would stay. He likes working with me and I like working with him so if there's something to be done there, then we perhaps would do well to act on it."

I wish he could stay but there are a few factors getting in the way - can the club financialy support him for another season? Does Marlon want to stay? I always thought he just came here to prove he can still play at the top level and with him now being in his 30s I think he'd want to move on to a higher level ASAP. Will bigger clubs then ourselves be interested in him? I certainly think so. On top of that he was single handedly carrying the team last night, I'm not sure he'd want to stay with these players to be honest.

I'd love him to stay but I think it's gonna take something special to keep him!!

Going on recent Aidy quotes and the lies that have been coming out of CCFC and SISU, I read the above to mean 'we will try and placate the fans by making it look like we're trying to keep him but in all honesty we are going to sell him to make some money so that Ray can buy Malmo'

He's just about the only player worth watching at the moment so I hope he stays - I agree though that if he has an once of passion about finishing his career in style he will leave and get as far away from those donkeys as possible

You're probably right apart from Marlon King is a free agent at the end of the season as he only signed a contract until then so we can't make any money off him anyway as he is free to leave unless he extends his contract (highly unlikely)

Aidy Boothroyd wants new Coventry deal for Marlon King

Marlon King has scored five goals for Coventry since joining in September

Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd is urging the club's board to offer joint top scorer Marlon King a new contract as soon as possible.

The current deal for the striker, who joined City following his release from prison last year, expires this summer.
"Tie him down," Boothroyd told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire.
"He's a terrific player and I think he likes working with me. If there's something to be done there we would do well to act on it."

City have dipped badly in form, having dropped from the Championship play-off places to 15th after a run of nine league games without a win.
But King has hit a purple patch, having scored in each of the last three games to take his tally for the season level with Fredy Eastwood and Gary McSheffrey to five.

"Whatever Marlon does, whether he's playing badly, well or indifferent, his work rate is outstanding," said Boothroyd, who also had King under his command at Watford.

"That's what I expect from my players."
Jamaican international King, who started his career with Barnet, before moving to Gillingham and then Nottingham Forest, has scored goals wherever he has gone.

In 402 appearances, 88 of them as a substitute, which also included Watford and a £5m move to Wigan Athletic, as well as loans at Leeds, Hull, Middlesbrough, he has hit 126 goals.

Signing up Marlon should be a priority right now, we'd be screwed without him at present.

Gotta say was wasn't 100% in love with the idea when he came here... He's starting to find his form an I'd like to see him signed for a couple more years if they can...
