oh dear - out of interest why call me old man? Is that bigotry suggesting some form of what - senility?

Can’t remember. I’m sure Grendel is on the case!

Is selling your best player to reinvest in the squad really so bonkers though? Seems like we’re all arguing (twice!) over a relatively innocuous hot take. Feels like I’m a few spreadsheet searches away from having to tell everyone how many languages I speak!

I'm thinking summer 2022 rather than summer 2021. What I thought was bonkers was the idea that we could expect to stay up by selling a striker who is pretty much unique in this division and plenty of other managers realise that. If indeed we had sold him to Middlesbrough as Wilder was strongly hinting at he'd have torn us to pieces on Saturday and we'd be on an even worse points total than we already are.

So yeah it's still kind of bonkers in my view.

The bit which you constantly overlook - and it’s a very important bit! - is that the hypothetical Gyokeres money would be spent on improving the squad, so we wouldn’t be reliant on any one player just to survive. Similar to what we did with Chaplin, Bayliss and others. Obviously Gyokeres is much better and more important to us than those players ever were, but guess what! He’d also collect a bigger fee. Or at least, he would have done - the moment’s passed now.

No offence intended. If you are actually below the age of 65 then I’m happy to correct the record!

Im hardly offended if i am or I am not. It’s curious to refer to age - why out of interest? I assume as an example you’d have had a huge issues with Jeremy Corbyn being PM as he’s an old man? So you were much keener on Boris Johnson as he’s not by your definition an old man?

Nixon reporting Robins is one of a few candidats that Middlesbrough are interviewing. Mentions a hefty compensation fee.

What could that be? £1m?

Not sure that would be the case re. hefty compensation, I’d always presumed he was on a 12 month rolling contract.

I think we could do worse but I think the fact we have no money to spend would put him off. So yeah as you say, zero chance.

Decent shout, although he will inevitably clash with the owners.
By all accounts he’s done a decent job wherever he’s been, with the tools at his disposal.
Just seems he has a bit of an abrasive approach to owners.

I dunno. Improbable maybe, but after a poor Middlesbrough spell, and a poor end to Sheffield Utd, his stock isn't as high as it was.

How long before the "Robins to Baggies" thread appears now that Bruce has been sacked?

I think it stopped being about managerial success years ago for him. Collected £8 million from Newcastle and probably another few today. Some people win the lottery once in a lifetime, he wins it every couple of seasons

Put it this way, he’s the same price as the Forest manager who signed a new contract this week!

I reckon Forest were being a bit cute there. They will know there are some positions opening up, and that Cooper might be a target for some clubs, so perhaps they are tying him in to a longer contract so that they get more compo and avoid having to fire him at enormous expense??
