Yeh he is one of the players Pressley is trying to sign, he said. Trouble is who do you play along side him?

Cody McDonald, pick him up for 100k
Cody and Madine plus two wingers would earn us 5 million.

But seriously for me it is a case of freeing up Tudguy, Jacksons, McQuoids and Nobles, Pughs, Wages

Then amongst others sign another big striker (Hanson) and two smaller faster clinical finishers.

these teams that bounce league 1 to the prem are built around a great midfielder and striker pairing. norwich had grant holt and hoolahan, soton had lambert and lallana we have a bunch of loanee's and a 17 year old we all hope will carry us to better things but will ultimatly be sold to the first bidder. the best thing southampton did was choice administration over bastard sisu

Quite an enjoyable game today, good to see Pressley be positive in his team selection. We at least looked relatively dangerous throughout playing 3 strikers and got more bodies in the box

I wasnt there today, so happy to take your word for it, and please don't think this is a critism of your post, but in truth, it saddens me to hear that a 0-0 v Chesterfield at home was "quite enjoyable"

Didnt quite agree with pressley saying it was a winning performance , yes we did better today , but the game for long periods was very flat , stats say we had 3-4 more shots than chesterfield but thought overall , despite as usual having more possession , the draw was about right in all honesty .

Linnell was clutching at straws - yes we created chances like aaron martins 35 yard potshot.....

Have to remember its in comparison to this seasons performances at the Ricoh.

Games like notts county, Preston have been the worse performances I have ever seen under any manager regardless of division

Wasn't great quality today but al least there was a bit of goalmouth action at both ends to get you off your seat

Well that was an improvement on Doncaster, but that wasn't difficult.

Agree with Pressleys conference points, although I didn't agree about Thomas playing well. He, along it's Webster made far too many cock up passes. Fleck did however seem more confident along side him.

Do worry about our lack of goals, although we did make more positive chances today

I though fleck was poor again today. Slows the game down everytime be got it, taking 2-3 touches before he decides where to pass it, and overplaying it, pretty much every pass outwide to was played behind the player. He gave the ball away more than thomas did. Thomas was ok, better than finch and offers more of a balance.

It was better, we started brightly and created a few chances in the first 10 mins, then started running out of ideas. Chesterfield never really pushed on, came the for point and got it. Madine hit the post with a freekick but all in all we're clueless when we get in the final third.

Thomas was ok today, on the ball he was no worse than Fleck, O'Brien and offers more defensive cover. Also played some decentish first time passes where as Fleck and O'Brien want 5/6 or 7 touches before passing

My issue is with players taking the extra touch instead of distributing it quickly , its actually doing us more harm than good , hence we never look really like scoring

Just reading this thread from the start it seems most people would haver taken 0-0 before the game (the reality is that Chesterfield have performed better this season than we have).

Pressley played with an attacking formation that everyone should have been happy with.

The strikers didn't show their class and we got the 0-0.

I hope that he will persevere with this formation until it comes good. There is clearly no benefit from flooding the midfield with sideways passers.

And being scared to shoot from just outside the box It goes out to the wide men for a crap cross rather than a shot.

I agree with what you say Dave. It was better today and a 1-0 would've changed the mood on this thread. However, still ifs and buts yet again. That 11 should continue until it comes off. Nouble and Jackson both have the ability to conjure up something out of nothing. Reda for Webster would be my only change. Or perhaps Willis for Webster and Reda for Haynes.

Still no victory without Johnson in the side.

I agree I'd persevere with it, I thought we looked at least mildly threatening today where as in the past few games we wouldn't have scored even if the opposition had no keeper.

8th game where we have failed to score now. Scored 24 in 23 games.

Not too good is it.....

I don't think it was pressley own idea about today's formation pretty sure if Barton and Maddison had been available he would have started with them ... Over all a much better performance but could of done with bringing a fresh set of legs on for the final 10 minutes ..maybe Swanson for nouble ..

Lets be honest if you were an opposition manager about to play coventry , you would be like " yes , they will play it slowly from midfield to madine , then out wide to either pennington or haynes and hit a hopeful cross in ....all game " thats basically how predictable we are uptop

Another one of our problems is the crosses are not hit with enough pace on them .. It's pointless floating balls in with no pace as it's easy for the goalie or defence to read them

I have very low expectations these days so I didn't expect much from the match. I came away feeling a bit more positive than I expected. The manager gave it a go with what he has got and we should have won the game. We have to accept that we are a League one side and so are the teams that come to play us, so there is a distinct lack of quality. For what it's worth I think that Madine and Jackson will reap more dividends if played up front together regularly but only as long as our Midfield gets up quickly to support them. On the negative I think that Connor Thomas is really lacking confidence and his ability to pick a pass forward is at times very frustrating and O'Brien thinks he is a much better footballer than he is. Can't particularly criticise the effort all round, a bit more class would be nice but we are where we are !

Also interesting to hear Pressley agree with the officials about eventually getting to the right decision. Trying to get officials back on side is he??

If there is anything to learn from today, it is that attack is the best form of defense. A lack of quality will always hurt you and drawing at home and losing away is relegation form.

Well Pressley listened to me and picked my team from a day or so ago....so I am happy with that. Too late thought Pressley my cv winging it's way to Ricoh!
My only changes probably would be Reda for Webster & Willis for Pennington & Swanson for Fleck......should definitely stick with this team though.

After what I've been hearing on CWR and reading on here I was expecting it to be worse than it was. But before I get to the game it was my first time at the Ricoh since the Wasps takeover and it was thoroughly depressing. I know we were only tenants before but it certainly doesn't feel like home now and I don't see how it ever will. Don't think SISU are serious about building a new stadium but staying at the Ricoh isn't a great option. Looking at what they've done so far there's no way the seats aren't getting changed at some point in the future.

On to the game, first few minutes were good! Wondered what everyone had been complaining about. After that it was all a bit downhill. A decent amount of possession but they don't seem to have much idea what to do when they have the ball and no urgency to go forward. Only 3 or 4 shots you could say were decent chances.

Thankfully they were equally poor. To me the fact that a 0-0 draw at home to Chesterfield is being applauded by some as a good result completely sums up the poor state the club is in.

After a similar absence CD I was left coming to the same conclusions. However a lack of matchday bus and ridiculously OTT police presence soured the day further.
