Not been the same since Rik Mayall passed away

(Doesn't really work as it's "Edmondson", but I went with it anyway)

There is a law against unsporting behaviour which pretending to be injured certainly is. The solution to me is to call their bluff and treat the keeper as any other 'injured' player by making him go off the pitch for a while before coming back on.

Would soon stop it.

Well there’s a law that means the keeper is treated on the pitch and not required to leave if they have had treatment

So if the keeper is genuinely hurt there team would then have to play sans keeper for 30 seconds? Nah

If the keeper's genuinely hurt you could always substitute him.

But what if he is hurt but can continue after treatment? Why should a tea be forced to sub him?

Once again nah, it's a shit idea.

It's simpler to just stop players going over to the bench in droves.

And why should that be prevented at the end of the day?
Turn it into an ad break while they're at it,if they miss a bit of action (late coming back) no issue is it?

When a keeper goes down for apparently no reason when their teams under the cosh, the ref should get all the players from the team to stand in the centre circle before the medics are allowed on. Would stop the whole bullshit of a tactical injury in its tracks. To me it seems the only way to stop the blatant cheating, with guarantying the safety of the players.

The captain should name player to leave the field for 30 seconds in place of the goalie to ensure the laws are followed

Doesn't stop the manager relaying the new instructions some other way.

But how do you stop it. I remember years ago in a league cup game the Everton game the Everton keeper thought Auqero was faking his injury and it turned he had a long term injury. Watched the Arsenal game today and after Newcastle scored they spent the rest of the game stopping the game flowing by constantly going down for innocuous tackles and cramp. You can add time on but difficult to actually to stop it. Let's face it it's the managers who encourage and the players go along with it .

Football is totally fucked by cheats . It's about time referees sent off players with a straight red where , for instance , a player goes down holding his face when clearly he was in contact on the shoulder , back, etc. That happens all the time now. Football is utterly crap compared to 20 years ago and this makes it even worse.

Hopefully in a game soon the keeper does his little sit down and the opposition smash it into the net and then don’t do all this soppy bollocks letting the other team get a goal back.

It’s fair enough refs can’t spot all this live but every match should be rewatched and anything spotted like this should be have retrospective action. Would soon sort it.

Players should be just treated on the pitch without the game stopping. No need to stop the game

The one that gets me leaving the field on substiution time wasting .The rule is should go via nearest touchline Ref. does not insist they should and if he on a yellow and takes too long a second means they end up a player down.
I agree about only stopping for head injury anything other play on .
I heard commentators saying the other day someone would not get sent off for 2 bookings for timewasting why not?

I think they should have a time to leave the field and if they go over it the player coming on is booked. Also no need to wait until the player gets into position normally the farthest point to get to as soon as on the pitch the game starts.

Or the new player can't enter the field of play for the same amount of time after play restarts as it takes the player going off to leave

I find it amazing that a group of fans on this forum can see the problems and find solutions yet the people who are paid to do it can’t.

It’s really the fourth official who should monitor the subs - once the board goes up there should be a countdown on his board showing how long they have to make the sub - if it doesn’t happen ref waves the game on

Yea took me back to the wolves game. Got talking to an old wolves fan on train back to Brum.
He was saying it was a tactic their manager uses when needed. He gets word to keeper who sits down, team then know that is the signal to run to manager for new instructions.
He said even the wolves fans thought it was a shit thing to do.

Don't know whether it's because I'm laid up and out of action due to my septic arthritic prosthetic knee but I really fucking hate football right now.

We say we need to get better at the ‘dark arts’ but this is one of the things I’d never want us to start doing, it’s absolutely embarrassing and shows mental weakness in the management.

dont stop the game for injuries... let the physios come on and play round them, if you stop the game for an injury, you have to either be subbed off or sit off for 5 mins... you'll soon realise that there are actually hardly any injuries in football!

The good news is that, when opposing teams use fake injuries to allow their manager to reset his tactics, we usually go on to win

With the player coming on it books the here and now booking the one going off is somebody else’s possible benefit, they are never going to send off a player being subbed the refs are too weak.
